Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for an AV Engineer. The primary role of this position is to support the installation and maintenance of a wide range of AV technology across a wide array of spaces (including classrooms, conference rooms, athletic facilities, and research labs) across all campus locations.
The successful candidate will install, configure, and test AV technology, assist with procurement and warehousing activities, securely dispose of removed assets, and ensure the asset inventories are updated and accurate. The AV Engineer will advise where changes, improvements, or replacements should be made to existing technology. The AV engineer must have knowledge of AV hardware and programming, including installing wireless casting devices, touch screens, processors, and projectors.
The AV engineer works collaboratively as part of service and project teams as well as independently. They may assist in overseeing the work of outside contractors. Work is focused on ensuring all installations adhere to ITS' AV standards. The AV Engineer will assist in continuously improving workflows and standards for effective operations.
Field work is required to troubleshoot and resolve incidents quickly and must be completed within scheduled time constraints. The AV Engineer will be expected to provide specialized AV knowledge and excel at specialized tasks or provide broad knowledge and expertise across many AV systems and installations as required for projects, field work, and troubleshooting. UAlbany AV technology is heavily used, must function as designed, and designs must continuously evolve. Site visits to inventory spaces and identify AV assets and applying knowledge of AV manufacturers will be required. ITS seeks to meet emerging needs, improve the user experience and streamline its AV installation processes as part of new initiatives and on-going efforts.
The AV Engineer will report to the AV Technology Manager and be a member of the AV Technology Group.
Primary Responsibilities:
Install configure, test, and document AV hardware and control systems
Install a wide range of AV technology in alignment with ITS AV technology standards, working as a project team lead or member as assigned.
Install, set up, and configure programs/applications in alignment with ITS standards and project design specifications.
Test and commission AV, control systems, and applications to ensure they operate as designed and document or report any failures.
Complete, as assigned, asset inventory, warehouse and procurement tasks and workflows.
Securely dispose of all removed assets.
Update the asset inventory database, ensure accuracy and completeness of asset information, in compliance with procedures and guidelines for data entry.
Resolve or report for further action any remaining questions or issues noted during AV technology setup.
Provide support to ensure the integrity, security, reliability, and availability of AV technology
Receive, document and resolve service requests and incidents, provide excellent customer service and work within service teams.
Diagnose and report points of failure across the entire AV installation, including associated application and OS, servers, the network and at the workstation, mobile devices or other connected endpoints and resolve or escalate as appropriate.
Use specified tools accurately for work/service and project-related tasks in accordance with ITS' specified processes and procedures.
Perform activities to support AV technology deliveries and maintenance of storage and work areas.
Continuously improve workflows, working closely with the AV Technology Group.
Support high profile events.
Stay current with industry trends, AV technology, and ITS AV standards and recommend where they may be incorporated into ITS standards.

Job Requirements:
Ability to be self-motivated, to manage multiple priorities and tasks, and to work independently and within a team structure.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities.
Expected to provide broad knowledge and expertise across many AV systems and installations, while also providing specialized expertise and ability to complete specialized tasks.
Provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.
Report to campus in-person. This position is not eligible for telecommuting
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization or 4 years of professional experience installing and supporting AV technology may be substituted for a degree.
3 years of professional experience configuring and testing AV technology.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with an asset inventory.
Experience installing, configuring and testing AV signal flows.
Experience installing, configuring, and testing AV programming.
Experience installing and programming Crestron control systems.
Certifications in audio/visual equipment, and audio/visual control systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of AV technology manufactures such as Savant, Crestron, Control4, Samsung, LG, Panasonic Phone Systems & Networking Experience.
Experience using Microsoft 365 Apps, Teams, SharePoint.
Experience with project management applications.
Working Environment:
Must be able to lift at up to 80 pounds.
Position requires considerable standing, walking, and climbing ladders.
Required to connect, disconnect, and move equipment across all campus locations
