Summary The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Wichita, Kansas is currently recruiting for a Social Worker - Substance Use Treatment and Rehabilitation. Responsibilities Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Social Worker in the Substance Use Disorder Clinic provides assessment, treatment, case management, and planning to patients with substance use disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team. The social worker serves as an expert on recovery planning, psychosocial assessment and interventions, evidence-based therapies, and discharge planning. The incumbent services as a specialist in substance abuse within the facility and provides direct patient care services in the program area of addictions recovery. Professional social work interventions are provided in both the intensive outpatient care setting and within the residential treatment program. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Performing specialized treatment of mental health disorders and substance abuse/addictions. Providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy and case management interventions used in the treatment of Veterans with complex medical and mental health conditions. Conducting psychosocial assessments, including Addiction Severity Indices (ASIs). Developing treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Coordinating community-based services, including information and referral for additional services form other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs. Providing crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint, coordinates family conferences and serves as liaison to family members. This requires judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving, or crisis intervention techniques. (d) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with clients, staff, and representatives of community agencies. (e) Fundamental knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses/injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; and medical terminology. In addition to the basic requirements as stated above, the GS-11 Social Worker must meet the following requirements: Experience and Licensure. Completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the field of health care or other social work-related settings, (VA or non- VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. OR A doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.
