The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, located on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder, encourages applications for the Costume Shop Manager position for the 2026 CSF Season! This position will support the success of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
The 2026 CSF season begins in May 2026 and responsibilities for this position will continue through August 2026. This position will have some remote responsibilities beginning in January 2026 regarding design and production meetings.

For over 60 seasons, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival has delighted audiences with classic theatre under the stars.
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958, the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education, and community engagement.
CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists.
Plays are performed beneath summer night skies in the newly renovated Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and Roe Green Theatre indoors. The festival's education programs reach tens of thousands of school children each year through camps, classes and outreach performances that connect them with the continuing tradition and importance of live theatre and Shakespeare.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Oversee entire costume operations for CSF including the costume crafts, wigs & makeup, and wardrobe departments for a four-show repertory season in two theatres.
Serve as the direct supervisor for costume department heads including the Costume Crafts, Wig & Makeup, and Wardrobe supervisors.
Work with designers to determine built pieces versus stock and rental.
Create and track material and labor budgets.
Provide feedback to CSF Production Manager on costume staff hiring and manage all seasonal costume shop staff.
Oversee all day-to-day shop activities including personnel scheduling, equipment maintenance, supplies inventory, organization of workroom and costume storage areas.
Train and supervise college-level staff.
Facilitate communication between costume department and all other CSF departments.
Maintain standards in accordance with AEA contractual requirements.
Actively participate in preparation and construction on each production.
Participate in preseason production meetings and work sessions.
This position requires additional online training to gain authorization to operate university vehicles.
Monitor team safety, morale, and quality control and communicate regularly with the CSF Production Manager to strategize solutions and ensure that costumes operations are properly resourced.
Adhere to the policies set forth in the CSF Standard Access and Locking Procedures .
This position reports directly to the CSF Production Manager.

Physical Demands:
This position performs a variety of physical tasks including but not limited to climbing, stooping, pushing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and pulling.
This position uses manual dexterity in the operation of tools.
Working Conditions and Environment:
This position works in a variety of environments including but not limited to construction shops, stages, trap rooms, catwalks and grids, warehouses, exposed loading docks, and outdoors (rain or shine).
The working environment may be dirty, noisy, in low light, in high humidity, or in a tight and cramped space.
This position will be exposed, at times, to potentially hazardous materials and equipment.
This position may regularly be required to wear PPE during work activities.
What We Can Offer
The hourly rate for the Costume Shop Manager is $23.00 to $26.78 per hour.

At least one year of related experience demonstrating the required skills is required for this position. Appropriate education will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
A valid driver's license is required for this position.
