Job Description
The General Repair Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of the facility's outdoor areas. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled building maintenance tasks that includes preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Performs duties that include maintenance and repair of campus grounds, parking lots, and landscaping projects. The incumbent also performs daily custodial duties of the grounds to provide safe and comfortable surroundings for staff, students, and the public.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
Grounds Maintenance
Perform routine landscaping tasks including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, and planting.
Maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, and other plantings.
Remove litter, debris, and hazardous materials from grounds.
Conduct seasonal tasks such as leaf removal, snow shoveling, salting walkways, and preparing grounds for weather changes.
Operate and maintain grounds keeping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, snow removal tools).
Inspect grounds regularly to identify areas needing attention or repair.
Assist with minor exterior building maintenance (e.g., painting, pressure washing, signage upkeep).
Collaborate with maintenance staff for special projects or event setups.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
To train work studies to safely operate and manage equipment.
General Repairs
Make minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing, steam and water lines, electrical wiring and equipment.
Repair furniture, shelves, doors, windows, Etc.
Maintain and repair machines such as lawn mowers, water pumps, and machines.
Repair plaster walls and assist with painting and surface restoration.
Assist with major construction or renovation projects.
Maintenance and Repair of Red Wing Fleet Vehicles.
Unload and/or load supplies or equipment using forklift.
Maintain clean and unobstructed emergency exits and fire extinguishers.
Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
Ensure Compliance with OSHA and facility-specific safety standards.
Assist with moving furniture or office equipment.
Custodial Duties
Supervise temporary labor and assist with training sessions on safety procedures.
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in hallways, offices, restrooms, and common areas.
Dust and wipe down surfaces including desks, counters, windowsills, and fixtures.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors.
Refill restroom supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
Empty trash and recycling bins; replace liners as needed.
Clean windows, glass doors, and interior partitions.
Spot-clean walls, doors, and other surfaces as needed.
Other duties as assigned
Help with any duties that the Director of Facilities assigns.
Help with Duties that the CFO assigns.
Help with safety of the campus.
Salary Range:
$26.77 - $30.81
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
Ability to safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors, and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualification
Forklift truck license
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to solve problems on vehicles and boilers.
Ability to work independently during building checks.
Knowledge of safe cleaning methods, including chemical cleaning agents, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and equipment.
Knowledge of proper waste disposal, including hazardous waste, and recycling practices.
Knowledge of safe grounds keeping practices.
Basic mechanical knowledge and skills for minor plumbing/electrical trouble-shooting, repair, and operation of equipment/vehicles (vacuums, floor/carpet sweepers, scrubbers, vehicles, lawn tractors, snow blowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, paint sprayers, hand and power tools).
Knowledge of proper painting methods and procedures.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Perform basic computer operation and usage.
Experience operating security and fire alarm systems.

Monday-Friday (7:00am-3:30pm)
