DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS

The primary responsibility of this position is to record, monitor, and transcribe court hearings, proceedings and conferences utilizing electronic recording and transcribing equipment used by the Allen County Juvenile Court.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilizes a steno@type to take and transcribe verbatim testimony and proceedings of court trials, prehearings, final disposition hearings, custody hearings, dependency, neglected, abuse hearings, adult sentencing, contempt's, adult arraignments, detention hearings and traffic hearings.

Prepares transcripts of testimony by transcribing into @typewritten form. Reviews and transcribes notes onto court order forms as ordered by judge and/or Magistrate.

Compiles, indexes, files and safeguards trial records according to established procedure. Files exhibit and retains for required time period after disposition of case. Releases exhibits by typing "Order to Release Exhibits" for Judge's signature.

Retains notes. Logs, dates, and assigns case numbers.

Types notices, Magistrate's Decision, Journal Entries, transcripts, correspondence, and other documents.

Research files to obtain legal data.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists with scheduling hearings and proceedings.

Performs computer case processing related duties.

Attends meetings and trainings as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Notarize documents as a dully appointed Notary Public.
