Job Overview
We are seeking a new MEP Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at Ardmore Roderick. As a MEP Senior Electrical Engineer, you join a team of infrastructure solutions experts working to solve our client's ever evolving project needs. This opportunity will be located in our Chicago, IL and could have potential to be hybrid depending on the specific client, project and team needs.
Key Responsibilities
Design electrical power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for various building @types, ensuring compliance with Chicago Building Code, Chicago Electrical Code, NEC, NFPA, IECC and other applicable local and national standards
Prepare, review and submit electrical permit applications and drawings to the City of Chicago Department of Buildings (DOB) and other U.S. jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with local permitting requirements
Review, approve, and stamp electrical drawings and specifications with Professional Engineer (PE) seal as Engineer of Record, in accordance with Illinois and other state regulations
Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash studies and coordination studies using ETAP or similar software for projects in Chicago and nationwide
Develop and modify electrical drawings and BIM models using Revit and AutoCAD, integrating designs with architectural, mechanical and structural systems
Collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs, including coordination with utilities like ComEd for Chicago projects
Conduct site visits for installation reviews, system evaluations and commissioning support across project locations
Review submittals, shop drawings and specifications for electrical systems, ensuring quality and compliance
Assist in budgeting, cost estimating and project scheduling for electrical system designs and installations for both Chicago and national projects
Provide technical reports, documentation, and mentorship to junior engineers on code compliance, permitting and design best practices
Support value engineering efforts to optimize designs for energy efficiency and sustainability, aligning with Chicago's Energy Transformation Code and national standards like ASHRAE
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois, with experience stamping electrical drawings as Engineer of Record
Minimum 8 years of demonstrated electrical engineering experience, including at least 3 years on Chicago-based projects
Proven experience applying Chicago Building Code, Chicago Electrical Code and local amendments, as well as national standards (NEC, NFPA, IECC)
Hands-on experience preparing and submitting electrical permit drawings for Chicago projects (e.g., via DOB's E-Plan) and other U.S. jurisdictions
Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for electrical system design and BIM modeling
Expertise in ETAP or similar power system analysis software for load calculations and studies
Strong knowledge of power distribution, low-voltage, lighting, and fire alarm system design
Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for markups, document management and collaboration
Experience performing quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
Field experience in system installation, troubleshooting or commissioning
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects across different regions
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
PE license in additional states (e.g., Florida, Ohio, North Carolina) where Ardmore Roderick operates
Extensive experience with Chicago's permitting processes, including E-Plan submissions and DOB interactions
Prior work on Chicago-specific projects (e.g., municipal facilities, Chicago Public Schools, O'Hare/Midway aviation) and national infrastructure projects
In-depth experience stamping PE-sealed drawings for complex urban or high-density projects
Field experience with building automation system (BAS) integration, troubleshooting, or commissioning
Familiarity with mechanical design (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) for integrated MEP coordination
Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar project collaboration platforms
Exposure to public-sector, higher education, industrial, or mission-critical projects across the U.S
LEED AP or similar sustainability certification, with knowledge of Chicago's Energy Transformation Code or national energy modeling tools

Salary Range: $134,960-165,760, Ardmore Roderick is providing the compensation range that the company believes it might pay and/or offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
