Job Title: Shop Helper

Job Description

As a Shop Helper, you will assist with the repair and replacement of components and equipment in the workshop. Your role involves applying mechanical engineering theory, reviewing schematics and operation manuals, and conducting tests to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems. You will also operate or assist in operating workshop equipment, ensuring accurate and complete repairs. You will set a positive example by maintaining punctuality, communicating respectfully with all staff levels, keeping work areas clean and orderly, and adhering to safety regulations and company programs.

Responsibilities

Assist in testing mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer's specifications.

Help repair and replace damaged or worn parts.

Assist in operating and inspecting machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.

Support dismantling and reassembly of heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.

Perform routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles, such as cleaning and lubrication.

Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.

Read, understand, and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.

Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.

Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using instruments like handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.

Assist with yard operations, including loading and unloading.

Operate shop equipment like cranes, forklifts, and man-lifts once trained, licensed, and/or certified.

Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.

Repair and maintain parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.

Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders for welding or cutting metal components.

Promote a safe work environment by following established safety procedures.

Handle and dispose of hazardous wastes, including toner, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner, and similar materials.

Essential Skills

Mechanically inclined with experience in general labor, cleaning, and degreasing.

Ability to maintain clean and organized shop and yard.

Experience assisting shop technicians with repairs, assembly, and testing of mechanical equipment.

Proficiency in cleaning and degreasing tools and parts.

Familiarity with power tools, forklifts, and inventory management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with 1 year of related experience.

Experience with cranes and forklifts.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of NA, New Jersey.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.67/hr.
