Job Summary

The University of Michigan Law School Center for International and Comparative Law (CICL) is looking for a customer service-oriented, intellectually curious individual to join our team. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for International Affairs, this position will provide administrative support for the office and staff, including to the Assistant Dean and the Graduate Programs Manager, as they carry out their mission of supporting the Law School's graduate law programs, international internships and study abroad programs, and the work of the Global Affairs Committee. Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate might also provide assistance advising about international opportunities for JD and LLM students. The successful incumbent will work directly with faculty, staff, and students. This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week.

The Center for International and Comparative Law is the hub of international activities at the Law School. CICL's primary roles are 1) to support the international ambitions of our JD student population, especially international internships and post-graduate opportunities; 2) to direct and manage all non-JD graduate programs for LLM and SJD students and for visiting scholars from around the world; and 3) to direct the internationally-focused programs and reputation of one of the premier faculties in transnational law.

Responsibilities*

Internship, fellowship, and semester exchange logistics management

Field student questions and provide answers or connect students with other resources, as appropriate

With an eye on various program deadlines, assist students with application submissions

Maintain application files and disseminate to appropriate reviewers; communicate efficiently but comprehensively with faculty committees around applications and decision-making deadlines

Receive information from external constituencies and disseminate to students and faculty as appropriate

Communicate effectively and professionally with current students and alumni

Assist students with travel arrangements, reimbursements, and aid disbursements

Office staffing and other administrative tasks

Staff the Center for International and Comparative Law office in person during normal business hours

Perform administrative tasks, including managing expense receipts and preparing reports, answering phone calls, greeting walk-in guests, scheduling appointments and meetings, reserving meeting space and placing catering orders, responding to emails, and providing assistance as directed by the Assistant Dean for International Affairs and the Graduate

Required Qualifications*

Administrative assistant experience or experience in a role requiring similar skills

Demonstrated ability to be efficient without sacrificing accuracy

Ability to prioritize competing demands while meeting deadlines

Ability to work well both as part of a team and autonomously

Proficiency with current computer technology and applications, including Microsoft Office tools

Strong organizational and administrative skills

Desired Qualifications*

Prior experience in a higher education office setting, particularly a law school setting

Experience working with international students

Familiarity with U-M administrative processes, procedures, and systems
