The Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization within SCHIE is responsible for design, development, manufacturing and packaging of Microsoft's state-of-the-art computer chips, notably the Azure Cobalt. Our solutions provide sustainable strategic advantage to Microsoft and enable our customers to achieve more.
As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the SMPE team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for a Principal, Supply Chain Eng. & Ops to join the team.
Responsibilities
The position will have responsibility for owning and leading workstreams to drive efficient Engineering and execution of the Supply Chain with predictable results in support of Division Operations such that our various multi-generation product platforms are delivered on schedule and on budget.
The position requires you to work closely with the various end-to-end service providers of the entire Integrated Circuits (IC) Supply Chain, that includes Foundry / OSAT and key components suppliers, that are critical to the successful completion of New Product Introductions (NPIs) of complex, multi-generation products.
The position requires you to work with Supply Chain Planning to translate demand into supply along with necessary details of Bill of Materials quantities, tooling, schedule, resource and trade-offs required in support of this objective to drive it in alignment with the Division's resources needs.
Build the Division's Research and Development and Opex and CapEx plans for each fiscal year.
Drive Quarterly forecasts and execute this process on a rolling basis to achieve spending targets in alignment with program milestones and goals.
Build Cost of Goods Models for our Systems on Chips, based on application of silicon manufacturing economics.
Perform What-If analyses to arrive at optimum levels of target COGS within the constraints of schedules, yields, availability of critical components, dual supplier sourcing etc.
The position requires driving strong partnership, alignment, and commitment with the various providers in the supply chain to ensure internal customer needs are met and continuity of supply is ensured, including bringing new suppliers into our supply chain.
Drive supply chain viability through supplier compliance of Microsoft's Supplier Security Privacy Assurance (SSPA) program.
The candidate will closely work and partner with multiple stakeholders and organizations that span across Engineering, Program Management, Capacity & Supply Chain Planning, Sourcing, Legal, Finance etc. for alignment and support of Supplier strategies, Contracts, SOWs, POs etc.
This position requires you to have strong project leadership and management skills to independently drive work streams cross-functionally across a range of teams, sites, and internal and external organizations.
Proactively identify, define, develop, complex issues, risks, and trade-offs via oral and written presentations to senior leadership with appropriate recommendations to drive issues to closure in a repeatable and quality manner.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience
OR equivalent experience.
6+ years of experience in Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Product Development and Parts Production environment with successful deliveries of New Product Introductions over multiple generations to enable a strong foundation for Volume Production.
6+ years of experience in Product Costing, Planning and Analysis, identifying and driving Cost Reduction Initiatives.
3+ years of experience working with suppliers.

Advanced level of expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience in usage of BI tools such as Power BI.
Knowledge of Inventory Management Systems, Tracking Systems, ERP Systems etc.
Experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Silicon Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
