Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking an Ordnance Propulsion Engineer to join our Ordnance Engineering Team. This position will be located at our facility in Promontory, UT .
Role Description & Responsibilities:
The Ordnance Propulsion Engineer is responsible for energetic device applications & qualification for specific applications. Devices include Safe & Arms, Pyrotechnic Time Delays, Booster Separation Bolts (Thruster), Explosive Transfer Lines, Pressure Cartridges, Initiators, Linear Shape Charges, etc.
Department engineers are responsible for device requirements, specifications, test plans and reports for qualification, lot acceptance testing, and service life extension testing.
We provide engineering support for hardware procurement activities for solid rocket motors produced at Northrop Grumman facilities in Utah, which range in size from very large space launch boosters to small subscale laboratory test motors. This includes a wide variety of boosters used in launch vehicles for defense, space, and commercial applications.
Job Duties:
Understand device & system level requirements that pertain to booster ordnance.
Author test plans and oversee device level testing including environmental conditioning and final function testing.
Assess test results to determine if qualification, lot acceptance, or service life extension testing have been met. Document the results in a formal report.
Develop and present documented analyses to internal and external customers
Evaluate historical energetic device performance data
Develop performance requirements & document test results
Coordinate tasks with other engineers and stakeholders
Improve and update analytical methods
Lead supplier environmental and device function testing for qualification, lot acceptan
Travel expectation of 10% - 25%
Basic Qualifications:
This position can be filled at either level 2 or level 3.
Basic Qualifications for level 2:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g. Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical) and 2 years of experience or MS degree in engineering.
Basic knowledge of solid rocket motors and their performance
Proficiency in MS Office, and general computer skills
Familiarity with statistics and statistical methods
Highly self-motivated
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent time management and personal organizational skills
Detail oriented while maintaining an understanding of the big picture
Willingness to learn
Basic Qualifications for level 3:
Level 2 qualifications plus:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (e.g. Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical) and 5 years of experience or MS degree in engineering and 3 years of experience.
Familiarity with environmental testing, non-destructive and destructive testing.
Material Non-Conformance investigations & dispositions
Engineering Change Requests
Willingness to learn & teach others what you know
Preferred Qualifications:
Energetic Materials or device experience.
Energetic Device/Materials OEM experience. (Ensign Bickford, PSEMC, Chemring, Accurate, etc.)
Energetic Device Prime Contractor experience. (Northrop Grumman, LockheedMartin, Boeing, Raytheon, Airbus, Thales, etc.)
Energetic Device Military or Government experience. (NASA, DoD)
Root Cause Corrective Action investigation experience.
Demonstrated success in a team environment.
Additional Requirements:
Successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a BATFE Employee Possessor credential.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain secret clearance

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Primary Level Salary Range: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
