Summary The Social Services Aid position is located in the Mental Health - Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) at the Tomah, Wisconsin VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to monitor and take appropriate action regarding the safety and security of Veterans from threat of injury due to criminal acts, protection of personal and government property and directing response to security and life safety communications, telephone, fire and security computer system. Responsibilities Duties Include: Complies and prepares Daily Operations Journal (DOJ) putting information into the logbook related to events occurring within the program for dissemination of the completed product to various supervisors, regarding related safety and security checks of veterans within the Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP). Reports emergency incidents, taking appropriate action by entering information into log book regarding security on all @types of incidents or requests. Monitors entrances provide immediate and courteous direction and/or assistance to patients, visitors, and employees, maintains sign-in logs for visitors to the RRTP and ensures that the posted visiting hours are enforced. Operates a variety of communications and security equipment; such as a 2-way radio, landline, duress buttons Close Circuit TVs. Conducts rounds/inspections to check facility, equipment, health and safety and security problems per RRTP policy. Maintains accurate radio/alarm activity, records/logs dates, times and results of communications activities. Regularly conducts room and house inspections for contraband, health welfare, safety and security purposes and documents findings in the appropriate locations. Inspects daily for unsecured medication, initiates appropriate corrective actions for identified problems and follows up to ensure complete resolution. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/17/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-3 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-2. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Physical Requirements: Regular work is typically performed while standing, with some minor bending, lifting and pushing.
