Adjunct Instructor - Dental Assisting

Job Function

Creates industry relevant curriculum and assessments in order for students to be ready for entry level dental assisting employment. Provides classroom instruction to students so they may successfully pass components of the Dental Assisting National Certification Board exams. Collaborates with other faculty, Administration, Operations & Staff Coordinator and Internship Coordinator to support student success. Macomb Community College Adjunct Faculty demonstrate deep subject matter knowledge and provide effective instruction to students using various modalities including, but not limited to, on campus, online, remote, hybrid, and flexible learning. Adjunct Faculty are responsive to their students and support their success through timely communication, feedback, and assessment of student learning.

Job Responsibilities

An opportunity to join a premier community college as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Health and Human Services -- Dental Science Program. Primary responsibility will be to teach in the classroom and the lab while aligning with objectives and outcomes for the department.

Create course curriculum and assessments, refines and modifies as industry dictates.

Teach Dental Assisting courses as assigned.

Prompt completion of student grades and classroom paperwork as requested.

Expected to be reliable, responsible, professional and efficient with schedule and teaching assignments.

Promote and supports student success.

Maintain course materials in the College's Learning Management System (LMS), including, but not limited to, announcement, syllabus, and gradebook.

Keep gradebook up to date and submit final grades by published deadlines.

Participate and actively cooperate with the department and Learning Unit to meet accreditation standards.

Assist in facilitating student clinical and or lab experiences as assigned.

Participate in course assessments that will accurately measure achievement of student learning outcomes as assigned.

Complete training for various instructional delivery modalities as required.

Maintain faculty credentials as required by the College's accrediting agencies.

Attend Faculty Development Days and/or Institutional Development Days as schedule permits.

Participate in Learning Unit committees as schedule permits.

Other duties as assigned in compliance with the AAFMCC collective bargaining agreement.

Education

Associate degree required, can be general, health or education, and 5 years of dental assisting experience.

Qualifications

PRELIMINARY QUALIFICATIONS: Five years of dental assisting clinical experience as a Registered Dental Assistant required. Currently licensed as a Registered Dental Assistant (R.D.A.) and Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five years of teaching in an accredited dental assisting program experience preferred.
