The Blood Bank Supervisor / Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the blood bank. This includes ensuring the safe and efficient collection, testing, processing, storage, and distribution of blood products. The position also involves managing laboratory staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, and collaborating with medical professionals to ensure the availability of blood products for patient care.

Key Responsibilities: {#key-responsibilities data-start="932" end="961"}

Supervise and coordinate the activities of medical technologists,

technicians, and laboratory assistants in the blood bank.

Oversee the testing of blood donations for ABO blood group, Rh

factor, and infectious diseases.

Ensure blood products are properly labeled, stored, and maintained

in compliance with regulatory standards.

Manage blood inventory levels and ensure proper rotation of blood

products.

Collaborate with physicians and medical staff to ensure timely and

accurate blood product availability.

Implement and monitor quality control programs to ensure compliance

with FDA, AABB, and other regulatory standards.

Maintain accurate documentation of all blood product testing,

processing, and distribution.

Ensure all staff follow infection control and safety protocols in

blood collection, handling, and storage.

Assist with the development and implementation of training programs

for laboratory staff.

Perform periodic audits and prepare for regulatory inspections.

Essential Skills and Abilities: {#essential-skills-and-abilities data-start="1960" end="1999"}

Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage and mentor

laboratory staff.

In-depth knowledge of blood bank operations, transfusion medicine,

and laboratory testing procedures.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in ensuring

accurate blood product testing and record-keeping.

Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to urgent

medical situations.

Strong communication skills to interact with medical staff,

patients, and laboratory personnel.

Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a fast-paced

environment.

Qualifications: {#qualifications data-start="2577" end="2600"}

Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.

Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through ASCP or an equivalent accrediting body.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a blood bank or clinical laboratory setting, with at least 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
