Commercial Credit Operations Manager

Responsible for managing policies and training for all commercial credit partners and oversight of the credit analyst staff. Core focus is to facilitate efficient preliminary and comprehensive credit analysis of proposed loan requests and exercising credit approval authority in accordance with documented standards. The role supports achievement of MBS department goals in accordance with established risk tolerances through effective communication with direct reports, department leaders, and commercial relationship managers.

Manage the recurring credit training requirements for Member Business Services staff, including onboarding new partners into the commercial credit team, implementing new credit analysis standards, and proper use of the department loan origination system. Ensure credit analysts are receiving ongoing skills development and cross-training to promote maximum processing capacity for new loan requests. Ensure assigned business units are operating efficiently and reliably, are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules, have appropriate operating controls to mitigate risk, and are performing at a high level. (30%)

Conduct timely review and decisioning of new loan requests, including exercising independent approval authority (currently up to $1MM) in accordance with written management practices. Collaborate with the MBS Credit Manager to present recommended loan requests to the C-suite level loan committee and secure the necessary approvals. (25%)

Analyze and underwrite large new credits, generally over $10 million and up to portfolio limits, to include analysis of cash flow, financial condition, management ability, collateral valuation, and economic conditions on loans requests. Assigns each credit request with a risk rating. (20%)

Establish and maintain an efficient and productive working environment within the department based on continuous and effective partner communication. Achieve established departmental goals within defined timelines, as well as define and implement a measurement of acceptable staff performance. (10%)

Implement credit-related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and WPCU board-level policy requirements. (10%)

Conduct various assessments and audits to ensure department procedures are achieving accurate and desired results. Implement clean-up procedures and corresponding changes when necessary and as appropriate. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. (5%)

Required Skills

A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business-related field is required.

Minimum of 8 years' financial institution experience with 6 years' experience in commercial lending required.

Previous experience leading a team in credit administration or process improvement, or otherwise supervising significant operational initiatives from development through deployment.

Understanding the Credit Union movement, the "WPCU difference", as well as knowledge of WPCU products and services and the ability to understand and effectively communicate these differences is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to learn and utilize the necessary software to complete job functions.

Working knowledge of standard business entity structures and related organizational documentation is required in order to ensure loan facilities are supported with necessary entity approval.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Strong organizational and follow up skills are required.

Proven ability to learn complex or sophisticated concepts and apply them appropriately is required.
