About the team:
Charles Schwab's Premier Bank is partnering with our Digital Assets team to expand our product offering to include spot crypto trading for our clients. This new offer will complement an existing extensive range of brokerage and banking products, serving a critical role in maintaining Schwab's place as a leading financial services firm, providing accessibility and award-winning education on cutting-edge products and services for our clients.
The Director of Business Unit Risk, first line of defense, for the spot crypto offer will be responsible for establishing governance, overseeing and monitoring risk activity of the bank's digital asset product. The role will establish a risk management program, in compliance with firm wide frameworks, with focus on committee reporting and administration, vendor oversight, customer complaint monitoring, regulatory compliance and driving risk accountability across the first line in a matrixed environment.
Key responsibilities
Lead the creation and manage the Spot Crypto risk management program, coordinating with various enterprise risk teams on the identification, assessment, response, measurement, monitoring and reporting and escalation of key risks.
Stand up a strong change management process to monitor any changes in risk profile and processes and report as appropriately.
Own the management of the Digital Assets Management Sub-Committee and Digital Assets Listing/de-listing Sub-Committee. Ensure committee agendas, decisions, and escalations are well documented; manage the information barrier process.
Ensure root cause analysis and thematic issue resolution are performed as appropriate and report the trends and remediation to governance committees.
Provide executive reporting to senior management, and regulators as needed.
Partner with cross-functional teams to assess and address emerging risks and regulatory requirements related to the crypto offer. Maintain a deep understanding of the digital asset space and uniquely position yourself as an invaluable subject matter authority as it pertains to the risk program.
Lead a high-performing team of risk managers. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
What you have
Qualifications
10+ years in risk management, governance or operational risk roles preferably in digital assets or highly regulated banking entities
5+ years of direct people management
Experience supporting risk or governance committees and preparing executive level reporting
Analyzes issues objectively, thinking through all potential impacts, obtaining alignment on opportunities to manage risk appropriately
Personally, and professionally aligned with Schwab's vision and values, and a strong interest in financial services.
Bachelor's degree required; MBA and/or equivalent post-MBA level experience a plus

Strong project management skills, including attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and work efficiently (independently and with teams) to meet tight deadlines

Outstanding communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability developing materials and effectively presenting to and persuading executive audiences
