This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.
As the Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) for Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) and the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will be responsible for administering and monitoring security compliance programs to ensure that the DOC, Ombuds for Corrections (OBFC), Clemency Review Commission (CRC), and Cannabis Expungement Board (CEB) meet all applicable FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) requirements.
In this role, you will function as the primary liaison between agency leadership and the BCA for CJIS compliance, advising staff on policy interpretation, reviewing and approving security training and access requirements, and monitoring program activities to ensure ongoing compliance. The incumbent executes and documents compliance procedures, evaluates security operations, and recommends corrective actions or policy adjustments to agency leadership.
As the LASO, you will also provide technical assistance and training to DOC, OBFC, CRC, and CEB personnel, communicating regulatory changes and program requirements, and coordinating incident reporting and audit preparation to ensure that public resources and criminal justice data are safeguarded in accordance with law and policy.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 1450 Energy Park Dr, St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. This position requires a minimum of two (2) years experience in information security, with a focus on compliance with CJIS or other related security standards.
Experience must include:
Information security operations, including access control, identity management, vulnerability management, and incident response.
Program administration practices, to review, analyze, and document compliance with security requirements and recommend corrective action.
Developing and presenting security requirements (e.g., policy documents, audit reports, or training materials), providing training and presenting compliance requirements (e.g., presentations or staff training), and advise agency leadership and external stakeholders.
Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.
Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate security requirements in writing (e.g., policy documents, audit reports, or training materials) or verbally (e.g., presentations or staff training), that facilitates a mutual understanding on both parties.
Experience with State and federal criminal justice security requirements (e.g., FBI CJIS Security Policy, BCA CJDN standards) sufficient to interpret and apply them to agency program operations.
Professional security certification such as CISSP, CISM, Security+, or equivalent.
Experience coordinating with law enforcement, auditors, or multi-agency partners on security compliance or information-sharing initiatives
