Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant I to support the Accounting Supervisor and the broader accounting team in performing core general ledger activities, statutory compliance activities, and monthly accounting operations. This role is ideal for a candidate looking to build a solid foundation in corporate accounting while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
The General Accountant I will be responsible for transactional accuracy, timely posting of journal entries, and supporting the company's internal controls. The role also involves managing prepayments, accruals, fixed assets, and performing reconciliations in line with accounting policies and procedures.
Essential Duties:
General Ledger and Transactional Accounting
Prepare and post routine journal entries to the General Ledger (GL) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes by preparing schedules and reconciliations within deadlines.
Perform daily GL reviews to ensure correct cost center, account, and project coding.
Assist in the review and resolution of discrepancies or unusual transactions.
Be a finance business partner to other functional business unit representatives.
Fixed Assets and Statutory Accounting
Assist in maintaining the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring timely capitalization, disposals and correct depreciation.
Process disposals and transfers of assets in accordance with company policy.
Help track assets under construction and support capital-in-progress (CIP) reporting.
Support the Accounting Supervisor with statutory obligations, reporting requirements, and assist in regulatory compliance related to accounting obligations.
Accruals and Prepayments
Manage recurring prepayment schedules and ensure timely expense recognition.
Support the monthly accrual process by gathering data and preparing journal entries.
Maintain and reconcile prepaid and accrued expense accounts.
Financial Controls and Reconciliations
Prepare account reconciliations for assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Assist in maintaining proper documentation and audit trails for all accounting entries.
Support periodic reviews of the trial balance to identify inconsistencies.
Team and Audit Support
Provide support to the Accounting Supervisor and General Accountant II with routine and ad hoc tasks as needed.
Assist with gathering documentation for internal and external audits.
Help maintain organized and accurate records to support audit and compliance requirements.
Administrative and Ad Hoc Duties
Support the documentation of accounting processes and procedures.
Participate in cross-functional team efforts and system enhancement projects as needed.
Assist with any other accounting-related tasks as required by the Accounting Supervisor or Controller.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

Qualifications
Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education & Certification:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Preferred: Progress toward CPA or equivalent certification is an advantage.
Essential Qualifications:
1 - 2 years of accounting or finance experience (internship or work-study experience will be considered).
Good understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting (GAAP or IFRS).
Familiarity with general ledger systems; ERP experience (SAP preferred) is a plus.
Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
High attention to detail and good organizational skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to learn and take initiative.
Commitment to integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an ERP environment (SAP Strongly preferred).
Ability to balance competing priorities and multi-task.
Keen analytical and problem-solving mindset.
Ability to respond in a timely and courteous manner to internal and external customers.
Capable of handling confidential information in a responsible manner
Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision.
Ability to work with domestic and international teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Resilient, self-motived, and able to work well under pressure.
