Accountant, Little Shell Finance DepartmentCLASSIFICATION: HourlyCLOSES: Open until filledI. General Description of WorkThis position will work closely with the Little Shell Tribal Finance Director and the Little Shell Health Finance Director to perform a range of general clerical and accounting functions. This includes proper coding and entry into the Tribes financial system. The Accountant is responsible for assuring proper authorization has been obtained according to the Tribe's policy and procedures. The Accountant also maintains and monitors accounts, completes bank reconciliations and other end-of-month accounting activities. This may include preparing appropriate financial reports.The following information is not intended to be an all-inclusive or restrictive list of qualifications or job expectations. Manage all aspects of day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting processes including but not limited to: A/P, Revenue, journal entries, and drawdown requests. Ability to compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Maintain financial records and files. Perform monthly bank reconciliations. Generate monthly fiscal reports for the Finance Directors regarding revenues and expenses, including quarterly reports, balance sheets, charts, and graphs. Generate fiscal reports for Grantors, Department Directors, and staff, as needed. Work with vendors to setup and maintain account accurately. Assist with preparation of annual budgets for various programs and overall organization operations. Assist in preparation of year-end financial statements for audit and work with contractors to assist in preparation following generally accepted accounting principles. Work closely with the Finance Directors to review, refine, or develop fiscal policies and procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP and accounting principles. Ability to learn and perform under the guidance of the basic purposes, methods, and goals of the Little Shell Tribal Finance Department.II. Supervision ReceivedThis position reports directly to the Little Shell Tribal Finance Director and indirectly to the Little Shell Health Finance Director.III. Working RelationshipsRelationships are typically with Tribal, State and Federal officials, individuals in other agencies and tribal departments and the general public for the purpose of providing information, resolving conflicts, solving problems, and providing services.IV. Working Conditions & Location. Office and shop environments with exposure to common hazards and normal effort required.V. Qualification RequirementsA. Minimum Training and Experience - Bachelors Degree in Business - Accounting is preferred. In lieu of that, a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma, with at least 3 years' experience in accounting, and or related field with 3 or more years of equivalent professional work experience. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a positive, outgoing, and representative team. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).B. Preferred Experience - Experience in tribal government or non-profits preferred. Experience using MIP Fund Accounting software preferred.C. Knowledge - Knowledge of principles and process for providing customer and personal services; administrative and office procedures and systems; accounting principles and practices, banking, and analysis and reporting of financial data; and understanding of federal grant administration.D. Skills - Strong organizational skills; skills in computer and software programs, have a good working knowledge of office machines; and strong interpersonal skills.E. Abilities - Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to analyze data; ability to function in a culturally diverse environment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.F.
