About the Department
The Marketing and Communications Department set our brand tone. They construct and magnify stories and messages to help and inspire people through running, across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. They connect with the world's best athletes and ambassadors to deepen NYRR's mission. They leverage channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR's initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life. Broadcast & Video Production team oversees NYRR's live television broadcasts, including the TCS New York City Marathon and United Airlines NYC Half, and manages the organizations video content creation with a focus on developing compelling and entertaining video content around existing events, programs, and initiatives to raise awareness, drive engagement, and attract monetization opportunities for the organization.
About the Position
The ideal candidate for this role is both creative and meticulous, always thinking of new ways to create the best possible web experience for our runners, while managing website Requests from internal stakeholders, and keeping a close eye on typos, broken links, and timely updates. The Specialist will report to the Director but will be trusted to oversee and execute projects on their own, with minimal oversight. The person who takes on this role will have the opportunity to evolve and grow the website to improve and deepen our runners' relationship with the organization.
The role requires editorial judgement and diplomatic decision making. NYRR's website is responsible for communicating a lot of different messages: It promotes our races and our coaching products, it clarifies logistical processes about those races and products, it celebrates the diversity and experience of the running community, it tells the story of NYRR's mission-driven work, it supports fundraising and membership, and much more. The person we ultimately hire for this role will be comfortable with and experienced at balancing multiple priorities.
Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):
Manage and execute web-edit requests and updates from start through completion, including planning, execution, copywriting, project managing visual assets, and reporting on performance
Support the Director, Website Marketing, in the development and ownership of an insight and data-based optimization strategy for web performance
Develop and execute plans across events, races, products, initiatives, and general programming
Work with the Director, Website Marketing, and other colleagues across the digital team to map out a user journey that takes runners from awareness to acquisition and beyond
Support the Director, Website Marketing, with oversight of internal NYRR communication on the web editorial calendar
Occasional copywriting and editing
Occasional attendance of in-person races to assist social media content gathering
Design, build, and maintain responsive web pages, applying industry best practices in UI and UX to ensure intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences
Job Requirements
Experience:
3+ years of web content management and UX experience required
Education & Certifications:
Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, English Literature, Creative Writing, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience preferred
Skills and Attributes:
Extensive experience working with content management software, preferably Sitecore
Fluency in HTML and CSS
Expertise in SEO, SEM, and Google Analytics
Expertise in analytics and a/b testing, familiarity with testing software such as Hotjar
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent project management skills
Proven ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams, building and managing stakeholder relationships
Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Strong attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Other Requirements:
All staff are required to work the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon.
Salary: $72k/year
