This position helps manage projects that support MnDOT's Blowing Snow Control Shared Services Program. The position works on complex tasks related to right of way, computer-aided design (CAD), and visual planning. Position responsibilities include:

Confirm if blowing snow is a problem in certain areas by working with Snow Fence Coordinators

Collect and analyze Minnesota winter weather data

Visit sites, review aerial photos, and measure open areas to estimate how much snow might blow onto roads

Use elevation data and wind patterns to figure out where snow drifts are likely to form

Use tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcMap (GIS), and GPS to complete plan package assembly for blowing snow control plans, specifications, and cost estimates

Work with public and private landowners to find practical solutions for snow control

Create reports, maps, and plans to help reduce blowing snow on roads

Help inspect construction work and use the Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS) to track snow control measure installations.

Weekly travel within the northwest region of Minnesota is required, typically once a week. Approximately 20% of time will be spent in the field performing site reviews, providing construction inspection technical assistance, landowner engagement, and snow fence TAMS inspections.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years para-engineering experience (Transportation Specialist or equivalent) demonstrating:

Experience developing construction plans, maps, profiles, sections, elevations, photogrammetry, surveys and/or legal descriptions.

Experience using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD sufficient to import points and surfaces, create alignments and profiles, create sheets (plan, profile, cross sections), and create 3D corridors.

Experience applying road design standards and construction practices.

Experience communicating and engaging with others while maintaining tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.

Valid class D driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Bluebeam including editing/manipulation, commenting/markups, session creation, etc.

Experience using Bentley ProjectWise file management software.

Experience using P6 scheduling software.)
