Job Description
The Department of Engineering Technology (https://www.odu.edu/engineering-technology) at Old Dominion University invites applicants for an annual 10-month position at Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank as part of a multi-position hiring cluster aiming for the Critical Infrastructure and Data Transformation to Advance National Security to begin in Fall 2026. Candidates will be considered for appointment at all ranks contingent upon appropriate qualifications. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is an annual Tenure Track/Tenured 10-month appointment that will begin July 25, 2026. The cluster, with faculty hires in School of Data Science, Batten College of Engineering and Technology and Office of Enterprise Research and Innovation, integrates interdisciplinary research in resilient infrastructure, infrastructure data transformation, and secure smart systems to address national security challenges in coastal regions. It explicitly addresses the Old Dominion University's Strategic Plan in research areas including Coastal Resilience and National Security. The research in this cluster will be supported by five interrelated, cross-cutting research domains, including Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Computational & Data Science, Cybersecurity & Network Security, and Modeling & Simulation.
The primary responsibilities for this position are as follows:
Establish or continue a successful external funding track record.
Produce high-quality research for publication in top-ranked journals.
Contribute to systematic planning and development of the EET program.
Participate in the professional and intellectual community through professional and University service.
Be able to teach undergraduate courses in the Electrical Engineering Technology (https://catalog.odu.edu/undergraduate/engineering-technology/engineering-technology/engineering-technology-electrical-bset/) ( EET ) program.
Opportunities for teaching graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise will also be available with other departments in the college.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Candidates for associate/full professor positions must have academic or equivalent records that merit a tenured appointment in Engineering Technology Department, Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology.
Minimum required level and @type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the broad domain of electrical engineering technologies, emphasizing electrical and electronics engineering technology, embedded systems technology, industrial controls & automation technology, or power systems technology.
Candidate for associate or full professor must have a demonstrated sustained track record of external federal funding and peer reviewed research publications.
A plan for developing an externally funded research program at ODU with expressed interest in leveraging complementary research expertise at ODU .
Preferred Qualifications
Tenure Track/Tenured Electrical Engineering Technology ( EET ) at Batten College of Engineering and Technology is seeking for faculty in Infrastructure Instrumentation and Control, Resilient Power and Automation Hardware, and Physical Communication Systems for Next-Generation AI Centers.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the broad domain of electrical engineering technologies, emphasizing electrical and electronics engineering technology, embedded systems technology, industrial controls & automation technology, or power systems technology.
A strong record of externally funded research and publication, or the demonstrated potential to establish one. Candidates that would like to be considered for an appointment with tenure must have a strong established externally funded research record in any combination of the research areas listed in the Job Description.
A record of publications in peer-reviewed journal. Candidates applying for senior faculty appointments will be expected to transfer existing projects, when feasible, upon appointment.

The Engineering Technology (ET) Department comprises 19 faculty and about 775 undergraduate students. The ET Department offers a B.S. in Engineering Technology with majors in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology and opportunities to select electives in multiple areas that prepare industry-ready graduates. The Current research areas include engineering education, structural mechanics, next-generation communications systems, trustworthy AI, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, and sustainability and resilience. The faculty conducts research in collaboration with the NSF , ONR , NASA , Virginia Space Grant Consortium, and industry.
