Job Summary and Qualifications
HCA Healthcare is seeking a visionary Sr. Director of Software Engineering to lead our next-generation software development initiatives, with a strategic focus on artificial intelligence (AI) integration throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC). This senior leader will play a critical role in shaping and executing our digital transformation agenda, driving engineering excellence, and delivering AI-enabled solutions that improve patient care, clinician experience, and operational efficiency.
This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, people leadership, and innovation mindset, with a strong track record of deploying AI and automation at scale in complex enterprise environments.
Strategic Leadership and Vision
Drive the adoption of AI-enabled tools and techniques across the SDLC (e.g., intelligent code generation, test automation, code review, incident prediction).
Partner with business and technology executives to align engineering initiatives with HCA Healthcare's digital transformation goals.
Champion the adoption of AI/ML, DevSecOps, and agile practices across software teams.
AI-enabled Software Delivery
Partner with architecture, DevOps, platform, and data teams to integrate AI into engineering workflows.
Collaborate with data science and AI/ML teams to deliver scalable, secure, and performant AI solutions.
Collaborate to establish standards and best practices for AI-assisted software engineering.
Proven experience integrating AI and automation into the SDLC.
Deep knowledge of cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, containerization, microservices, APIS, and platform engineering.
People and Organization Leadership
Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams, including managers, and senior engineers.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, accountability, and technical excellence.
Develop hiring strategies to attract top talent in AI driven software engineering.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional software teams and drive delivery in an enterprise environment.
Innovation and Transformation
Drive proof-of-concept initiatives and pilots for emerging technologies such as generative AI, autonomous testing, and LLMs.
Evaluate and introduce modern engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI pair programming, AI observability platforms).
Act as a change agent to accelerate cultural and technological adoption of AI.
Demonstrated success in leading large-scale digital transformation or innovation programs.
Performs other duties as assigned

What qualifications you will need:
Bachelors Degree, Master's prefered
Three or more years in a leadership role
Ten or more years experience in software engineering
