The LA DOTD is a diverse organization with approximately 4,000 employees state-wide. This position in District 62 of the Department of Transportation and Development reports to the Project Engineer. Compliance with Louisiana laws and DOTD policies is mandatory. Required qualifications include a valid driver's license, ability to operate state vehicles and surveying equipment, and capacity to perform in extreme weather. Duties may involve lifting items up to 50 pounds and random drug testing. The incumbent must participate in training programs and continuing education, be self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision while handling unforeseen conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus five years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Thirty semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Leads and trains a team in inspecting construction projects, using independent judgment and maintaining positive public relations.
Oversees work assignments, personnel management, and documentation, ensuring compliance and quality in project execution.
Ensures construction quantities and reports are accurate and comply with agency standards.
Trains inspectors in quality assurance and supervises statewide traffic control practices
Provides information about projects to contractors and other interested parties as needed.
Attends meetings and reviews project plans for constructability and quantity accuracy.
May perform additional duties, including emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a promotion appointment or by detail to special duty.
Work Schedule: Work hours are to be determined, Monday - Friday.
Compensation : Starting salary is $29.45/hourly with an additional $2.00/hourly premium pay for every hour worked.
This position also receives an additional $2.00/hourly for hours worked after 6pm & before 6am when working on Construction Projects Only.
