What You Will Do
The Proto@type Fabrication (PF) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory has experience and expertise in machining, fabrication and precision dimensional inspection of critical hardware needed to support the nation's stockpile stewardship efforts. The Manufacturing (MFG) Group is seeking a qualified machine shop planner to join the team! This position will provide vital production and manufacturing support for critical areas of operations. The responsibilities of this position cover a broad range of transactional activities that are crucial for manufacturing accountability, security, shipping, tracking, quality and successful delivery of product to a broad customer base.
As a Manufacturing Engineering Technologist, you will be responsible for new product review, integration and process development onto the manufacturing shop floor. You will update production schedules and track costs of orders - from customer initiation through delivery of finished components. This will include assessing new orders for completeness and manufacturability, writing detailed instructions for manufacturing steps in collaboration with stakeholders, estimating lead times based on current workload, tracking incoming materials, issuing travelers to the shop floor, tracking all in-process work, assisting with managing classified inventory, and other associated functions to support on-time delivery of finished components. This will require you to be proficient in utilizing JobBOSS, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. The successful candidate will work directly with machinists, inspectors, welders, engineers, manufacturing liaisons, management and customers in support of daily operations for the division.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Manufacturing Knowledge and Experience
Ability to read blueprints in support of customer deliverables.
Working knowledge of the sequence of operations for the manufacture of parts and/or assemblies.
Demonstrated experience supporting the manufacturing of products that meet the technical and quality standards set forth on the product definition through the application of engineering practices and principles.
Knowledge of and experience in project management for technical or operational work, including the development of project plans, managing scope, schedule, and budget; and identifying and managing risks for projects of limited scope and complexity.
Estimating/Scheduling
Ability to provide accurate quotes for work requests including machine time, labor, material, and third party process cost.
Ability to coordinate the delivery and transfer of finished products on and offsite for a broad customer base.
Ability to coordinate and communicate with onsite customers and offsite vendors to fulfill awarded task orders and support the retrieval of finished products.
Inventory Management/Organizational Skills
Demonstrated experience with detailed record keeping and organization, e.g. inventory, records, production schedules and materials logs.
High attention to detail with accuracy and strong organizational skills in order to successfully monitor and communicate the status of orders.
Computing/Business Systems and Software
Demonstrated advanced proficiency with typical business software, computer hardware, and use of computer systems, specifically, spreadsheets, procurement systems and inventory databases.
Customer Service
Demonstrated experience interacting in a customer service-related setting and the ability to work cohesively in a team environment as well as independently to meet high demand schedule deliverables.
Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to the long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the organization.
Training/Certifications:
You must have the ability to acquire and maintain pertinent certifications, such as: Radiological Worker II; Beryllium Worker; classified matter custodian (CMC), and others that may apply
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of LANL specific applications (JobBOSS, CPIMS, LANMAS, HMPT certification, etc.)
Strong working knowledge managing production schedules supporting CNC machining operations.
Working knowledge of managing production schedules in a hazardous materials manufacturing operation.
Strong writing ability and verbal communication skills required to independently prepare and present data and reports to peers, senior colleagues, management, and customers.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
