Summary You will serve as a MANAGER of the Seakeeping & Maneuvering Branch (Code 852) of the Surface Ship Hydromechanics Division (Code 8500) within the Naval Architecture and Engineering Department (Code 80) of CARDEROCK DIV NS. Responsibilities You will manage the Seakeeping and Maneuvering Branch consisting of a team of scientists and engineers. You will supervise and manage personnel and resources, developing strategic, and tactical plans that address, workforce development, and business plans. You will provide technical guidance or supervision of branch personnel and will interface with customers. You will conduct fundamental and applied research, development and evaluation of the dynamic behavior during seakeeping and maneuvering of surface ships, small craft, floating platforms, and high-performance vehicles. You will plan or direct the conduct of model and full-scale surface ship seakeeping and maneuvering tests and trials using experimental, analytical, computational, and simulation techniques to study seakeeping and maneuvering qualities. You will develop technology for measuring, predicting, and improving seakeeping and maneuvering qualities (including loads), and applying this and related technology to evaluating specific ship designs. You will be identifying design faults to provide assistance in correcting and improving specific ship designs. You will require expert knowledge in planning and conducting seakeeping, maneuvering, and dynamic stability model tests for the purpose of characterizing surface ship dynamic performance. You will require the ability to supervise or manage personnel and resources, management systems, with the ability to manage timekeeping, procurement, travel, training, individual career development, and employee performance standards. You will require an understanding of naval hydrodynamics including theory, measurement, analysis, and prediction. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), Electronics Engineering (0855-series), or a Naval Architect (0871-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate.
