Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join our corporate applications team. This role will leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling to drive data-driven decision making across our generation, transmission, and customer operations. The successful candidate will work with large-scale energy datasets to optimize operations, and enhance customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Modeling

Develop and implement advanced statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and predictive analytics solutions to solve complex business problems across generation, transmission, and distribution operations

Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and measure the impact of data-driven initiatives

Create forecasting models for energy demand, renewable generation, and market conditions

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis

Experience with machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)

Strong SQL skills and experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Knowledge of statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, and experimental design

Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)

Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (i.e., "Big Data").

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions

Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses

Works with big data and distributed computing platforms

Develops software and contributes to product development

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 4+ years
