This posting represents a multi-level posting. If this position is not filled by qualified applicants at the Transportation Generalist Senior level, the position will be filled at the Transportation Generalist level.
Performs as survey lead worker in absence of the crew lead.
Sets up real time kinematic global position systems or total station.
Performs data comparison from real time kinematic global position systems or total station.
Assists survey lead in construction survey office activities.
Performs set-up, calibration, use and maintenance of survey equipment.
Assists survey lead in field construction by creating and/or checking survey notes, recovering or establishing horizontal and vertical control, setting and marking stakes, and pounding hubs or setting right of way.
Sets up and operates global positioning systems.
Assists with investigation and location of lot corners, monuments and section corners.
Processes field data into CADD files for other functional areas.
Communicates with contractors, landowners, consultants and supervisors to report progress or review work assignment.
Assists in performing 1st and 2nd order geodetic control surveys.
Processes geodetic control data and performs technical computations.
Prepares a mapping project to enable Aero-triangulation process.
Assists in preparing mapping and aero-triangulation projects.
Performs file maintenance and back-up of regular and archived mapping files.
Perform snow and ice duties such as maintaining roadways and preparing and inspecting winter equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required to be immediately accessible to a phone and able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a valid Class D or equivalent AND have the ability to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with no Air Brake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of initial placement into the position, permit within 3 months.
NOTE: The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetyl morphine (6-AM).
Exam Part 1: The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist Senior level can be achieved with:
Two years performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities, OR
One year performing surveys (e.g., land, location, construction, and/or geodetic control surveys, etc.), mapping or related activities; AND one year experience in performing roadway inspection, design or related activities.
NOTE: A two-year degree in Civil or Construction Technology OR a four-year degree in Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Land Surveying / Geomatics or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
A working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Exam Part 2: The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist level can be achieved with:
Six months of experience performing survey (e.g., land, location, and construction surveys, etc.), mapping, geodetic or related activities AND a combination of six months experience in road maintenance, construction, materials/soils, permits, etc.; OR
A two-year degree in Civil or Construction Technology or a four-year degree in Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Exam Part 3: Applicants made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. Acceptance of the offer is contingent on passing the math and reading assessment test. The required passing score for the math portion is a level 5 or higher and the reading portion is a level 5 or higher. If you've previously taken and passed the math and reading assessment, you may be exempt from retesting. Please check with your district HR office.
