Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer Location(s): Shoreview, MN Experience Requirements: Minimum: 12+ years of experience. Industry: Strong preference for candidates with medical device experience. Role Level: Senior/Principal. Must-Have Skills & Experience Electromechanical product development System architecture design Critical component selection Proto@type, test, and release to production (single-use disposables and console systems) Hands-on capability - must work independently without relying solely on test engineers or technicians Tools & Platforms: JAMA (requirements management) Altium (electrical design) SolidWorks (mechanical design) Position Summary The Principal Systems Engineer will be a key technical leader supporting all phases of new platform development-from concept and technology development through commercialization and post-market support. This role partners with marketing, medical affairs, physicians, and user experience researchers to define and refine user and design requirements. Activities include preclinical and formative studies, hands-on collaboration with physicians, and integrating user feedback into design iterations. The engineer will architect, design, select, and evaluate critical system components, software architecture, and hardware for electromechanical devices, including single-use disposables and consoles used in ablation procedures. Technologies may involve: Touchscreen displays Embedded microcontrollers and electronic circuit boards RF communications and application processors Sensors and data acquisition systems Pumps, valves, and motor technologies Key Responsibilities: Architect, design, develop, test, and transfer electromechanical systems and disposables for Class II medical devices Deliver system diagrams, architecture development, GUI development, component selection, subsystem design, proto@types, and V&V activities Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate user needs into engineering requirements Optimize designs based on testing and feedback Partner with external vendors to accelerate product development and testing Create design documentation (concept diagrams, specifications, requirements, test plans, V&V reports) Serve as a hands-on technical resource, contributing directly to mechanical, electrical, and software problem-solving Lead by example, mentoring junior engineers and driving cross-disciplinary collaboration Qualifications: Education: B.S. degree in Electrical, Software, or related engineering discipline (advanced degree preferred) Experience: 12+ years in electronics and system design for new product development Experience working with marketing and clinical teams to develop user needs and requirements Strong technical expertise in software-driven electromechanical medical devices Broad engineering expertise across multiple disciplines; prior experience with ablation devices is a strong plus Experience with single-use disposable devices Proven ability to create clear, thorough product design documentation Ampcus is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
