Document and maintain biopsy and sample databases. Maintain compliance with CLIA standards and other regulatory requirements. Manage laboratory compliance for all regulatory requirements (hazardous waste, chemicals, etc.) Prepare, analyze, and interpret experimental results, images, and figures for publication. Provide back-up technical support as needed for tissue sample processing. Advanced Technical & Analytical Functions and Consultation (20%): Perform and validate specialized laboratory tests using advanced biomedical instrumentation. Review quality control data and statistical measures to ensure accuracy of results. Provide interpretative support for reports and recommend additional testing or review as appropriate. Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with vendors or technical support to maintain laboratory operations. Provide consultation and advanced technical expertise to faculty, staff, and collaborators. Leadership & Supervision (20%): Supervise laboratory personnel. Mentor and guide laboratory staff, trainees, and students. Lead project teams or collaborative efforts as assigned. Recommend improvements to laboratory processes, capital needs, and workflows. Administrative & Other Duties (10%): Purchasing and spreadsheet/data entry. Generate and maintain laboratory protocols. Computer and software maintenance and database maintenance. Assist with grant submissions and laboratory budget oversight. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA/BS degree plus at least six years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least four years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least one year of experience. Coursework in biology Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office, Google Suite applications, and databases. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with histology, protocol optimization, and confocal microscopy. Previous research experience with both animal and human samples. Prior experience with submitting and/or assisting with grant applications. Prior teaching experience. Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience with advanced biomedical instrumentation and laboratory quality systems. Leadership or mentoring experience in a laboratory setting. Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills. A PhD or equivalent advanced degree is preferred. About the Department The Department of Neurology is one of 27 departments within the UMN Medical School. Rapidly growing, we have approximately 60 faculty and 35 medical fellows and residents. The Department of Neurology also houses 12 research centers/labs and includes 75 lab staff.
