The Information Technology team at the City of Irvine is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Unified Communications Engineer to join a high-performing team dedicated to delivering reliable and secure communication services across all City departments. This role will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and maintenance of telephony, collaboration, and audio-visual systems, including Microsoft Teams, AWS Connect, AudioCodes SBCs, Cisco cloud telephony, Zoom, digital signage, and conference room technologies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in unified communications engineering, project leadership, and vendor management, with a focus on ensuring seamless collaboration, operational resilience, and compliance with public safety requirements. This position requires excellent technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and public safety stakeholders. The Unified Communications Engineer will play a key role in ensuring that City staff, leadership, and public safety teams have the tools and technologies they need to serve the community effectively.
Your Impact
Administer and support unified communications platforms including Microsoft Teams, AWS Connect, Cisco hosted telephony, AudioCodes SBCs, and Zoom.
Oversee and enhance conference room AV systems, ensuring reliable performance for meetings, collaboration, and public engagement.
Administer the Police Department's phone recording system, ensuring compliance, reliability, and secure retention of records.
Lead UC buildouts for new City facilities, coordinating design, vendor engagement, and implementation.
Guide upgrade and replacement projects that modernize the City's UC infrastructure.
Partner with leadership to support budgeting, licensing, and vendor contract management.
Collaborate with IT, networking, and security teams to ensure communications are resilient, secure, and accessible to all departments.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Computer Science or closely related field and four (4) years of general information technology experience performing technical and/or analytical tasks for computer systems or services in any of the functional areas or emerging information technology fields, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Highly Desired:
Three (3) years of professional experience in Unified Communications engineering or administration.
Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Teams, AudioCodes SBCs, and enterprise telephony solutions.
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including QoS, SIP, and RTP.
Proven experience managing mission-critical communications systems in a complex organization.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical depth, problem-solving ability, and a collaborative spirit.
Significant experience supporting Microsoft Teams Phone System, Teams Rooms, and Direct Routing.
Hands-on knowledge of AudioCodes SBCs and SIP trunking.
Familiarity with AWS Connect or other enterprise contact center platforms.
Experience with Cisco UC technologies and Zoom administration.
Proven ability to manage and support AV systems for conference rooms and public meeting spaces.
Experience managing and supporting digital signage.
Experience with voice recording systems such as NICE or Verint.
Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex issues across telephony, messaging, and video systems.
Experience leading projects, coordinating vendors, and managing budgets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to partner across City departments and with public safety stakeholders.
