Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
The individual in this position is responsible for assisting the manager and providing direct supervision of assigned team(s) with daily operations. Ensure customer satisfaction while meeting hospital standards. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to solve problems, maintain process control, provide training and development, plan work, and sustain department standards and quality. Responsible for managing human resources in the department to assure that a qualified workforce is available and trained to fully meet customer needs and department goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Personnel Management
Assess staff's ongoing training needs and assists with implementing departmental training program for new employees and reeducation.
Assist with personnel administration including recruitment, hiring, firing, performance evaluation and assessment, performance improvement plans.
Ensures appropriate staffing levels, approves, or denies absence requests and reviews timecards for accuracy to assist with payroll processing.
Provide supervision, leadership, coaching and counseling to direct reports.
Perform and provide feedback on evaluations for direct reports.
Propose promotions or terminations as appropriate.
Facilitate team meetings/huddles and present topics at departmental meetings.
Serve as a role model to staff.
Operations Management
Analyze volume and productivity.
Maintain departmental standards through quality assurance monitoring.
Identify problems or areas for system improvements and assist the manager with developing and implementing resolutions.
Monitor customer satisfaction and act on customer feedback to improve the quality of service.
Able to assume caseloads and other duties as required to meet department standards.
Interdisciplinary Processes
Collaborate with SMH departments to integrate operations with other components of URMC, such as Medicaid Enrollment & Outreach, Financial Assistance, Registration and Insurance Management, Utilization Management, Social Work, Patient Accounts, Medical Records, Home Care Coordinators, Prior Authorization Teams, Contracting and Finance.
Coordinate with external entities including patients, families, physician offices, third party payers, Department of Social Services, Department of Health, police departments, attorneys, MVA and WC carriers, outside hospitals, governmental agencies, and external review agencies.
Serves as a liaison to patients, physicians, nursing, social workers, other URMC staff, insurance companies; serves on committees/teams as designated.
Policies and Compliance
Responsible for reviewing and validating departmental and hospital procedures and policies and ensuring staff compliance.
Interpret third-party payer requirements and related regulations to ensure requirements are met through insurance bulletins and compliance reviews.
Ensure departmental compliance with government or agency guidelines.
Ensure Joint Commission Compliance
Planning
Collaborate with Manager to identify strategic goals and objectives for the department and relay those to staff.
Monitor productivity by pulling and reviewing reports.
Develop and implement annual plan to accomplish goals.

Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience Required
