Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), Position Description Number T6360000 and is part of the 116th Communications Squadron located at Robins AFB, Georgia. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, position which DOES NOT require Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Current on-board Federal Employees within the state of Georgia. Responsibilities As an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN), GS-2210-12, you will: Develop, modify, and test overall system backup and recovery strategies for all systems. Serve as the technical expert and focal point for installation, configuration and testing of hardware and software associated with multiple operating systems and computer platforms. Provide technical assistance and analysis to other IT personnel involved in system design, programming, database performance, and adapting commercially available software. Determine equipment requirements, communications, and interfaces with other systems. Evaluate machine usage based on current usage patterns and develop plans for the acquisition of hardware and software needed to support future IT requirements. Serve as the senior systems administrator responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting to support customer needs. Work pertains to the administration of all systems including ensuring the efficient integration between systems as well as compatibility with local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) infrastructure. Analyze, evaluate, and recommend hardware/software changes to various computer systems. Consider factors such as compatibility with standard systems, conversion or implementation costs, and impact on existing equipment. Develop guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), bulletins and flyers concerning the operation/use of C4 systems, services, and activities. Provide interpretations of higher authority regulations and guidance concerning IT system activities/services and coordinates with internal departments and external agencies concerning the resolution of problem areas encountered. Advise staff on issues pertaining to operating systems and hardware status. Plan and schedule the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and software applications. Direct testing of Special Program Office (SPO) provided software. Develop, document, coordinate, update and validate the AOG Continuity of Operation Plan (COOP) procedures for system disaster recovery. Implement operating system releases and maintain the operational status of systems. Perform security management in accordance with NGB, AOC SPO, and Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) regulations and state policies. Develop and analyze local policies regarding system access, network rights, and physical access to systems and equipment. Develop policy for all systems storage requirements throughout the AOG. Design and modify the storage structure and correlation between systems. Modify system parameters on multiple operating systems, integrating the use of Storage Area Networks (SAN), to achieve maximum system efficiency. Analyze system operations to identify bottlenecks and take action to resolve problems and ensure optimal performance and consistency. Troubleshoot problems and implement changes on multiple computer platforms. Diagnose system failures to isolate source of problems between equipment, system software, and application programs. When problems are found, modify code, devise fixes, document problems and advise AOC Help Desk or other outside party. Interact with peers and vendors to resolve hardware and software problems and report unresolved problems to the appropriate party. Coordinate with specialists and managers at higher levels to obtain information for interfacing with systems at those levels and to facilitate the acquisition and exchange of information technology. Serve as the organization authoritative expert at meetings and seminars designed to arrive at solutions for mutual systems administration problems. Manage the Group Emissions Security (EMSEC) program. Coordinate with Base EMSEC Manager to conduct periodic EMSEC inspections. Incorporate EMSEC requirements and considerations into plans for modification of existing systems and plan for future facilities and systems. Conduct EMSEC customer Education. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Provides supervisory (less than 25%) and technical assistance to the Base Architect/Engineer in overseeing and managing the engineering shops and production control function. Provides technical support to all assigned sections. Provides guidance to these sections on standard and code requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
