At Department of Public Safety - Office of Management and Finance (DPS-OMF) our mission is to provide effective management and support services in an efficient and professional manner to all agencies within the Department of Public Safety - Public Safety Services and to public and private entities.
We're looking for an Accountant 1/2/3/4 within the Financial Services section at DPS-OMF.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Assigns, reviews, analyzes and maintains general and subsidiary ledgers of programmatic budgeted expenditures and revenues for one or more DPS/PSS agencies which includes monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations.
Provides direction and assurances that revenue transactions have been properly classified; maintains cash management ledgers of funds drawn and received in order to alert management regarding any under-collecting of budgeted funds; prepares journal vouchers to reclassify revenues as necessary; maintains accounts receivables ledgers; Prepares monthly reconciliations of Agency Program, special fund and credit card reconciliations
Primarily responsible for the preparation, review, analyzation and approval of complex monthly, quarterly and annual fiscal reports including the Annual Financial Reports.
Consults and recommends solutions to problem areas and issues and supports management in order to facilitate resolution while making recommendations.
Prepare reports and compiling data needed to control expenditures, accounts receivables and revenues.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotionalopportunity for permanent DPS employees only.
Career Progression:This position participates in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Location: This vacancy is located in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Compensation:The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The biweekly rates for each title are as follows:
Accountant 1 (AS614) - $1,544.00
Accountant 2 (AS615) - $1,652.00
Accountant 3 (AS617) - $1,892.00
Accountant 4 AS619) - $2,166.40
