Responsibilities As an Accounting Officer, you will serve as the Division Chief in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Financial Management Division. Typical work assignments include: Plans for the effective utilization of integrated financial systems and programs, which include accounting, automation of program and budget submission and management information data. Provides expert analysis and technical expertise to maintain and improve accounting programs, automated financial systems and provides solutions to program management problems. Oversees the administration, technological innovation, development, and continued enhancement of various automated systems. Responsible for oversight of financial management and accounting operations necessary to support the plans and direction of programs and activities of the USSS. Responsible for all matters involving interpretation, implementation, formulation, and evaluation of administrative policies and procedures relating to the direction, operation, and management of the FMD workforce. Supervises subordinate, responsible for oversight of assigned accounting, travel/relocation, financial systems, statements, and payments branches. Supervise, manage, and direct all staff engaged in the development, administration and execution of the goals and objectives of the FMD. Participate in decision-making meetings for the purpose of formulating/clarifying procedures and regulations related to financial management. Directs short- and long-range planning and/or projection on all aspects of financial programs. Measures and evaluates financial management program accomplishments, effectiveness and compliance with departmental rules and regulations to identify problems and proposed solutions. Completed the requirements for a degree that included substantial coursework in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but less than the 24 semester hours required in 'B' above and have successful work experience in accounting, auditing, or a related field such as valuation engineering or financial institution examining that together demonstrate (1) a good knowledge of accounting and underlying fields and (2) a level of experience equivalent to the full performance level of the job being filled. Reviewing and analyzing complex accounting documents, reports, policies and procedures involving a range of federal appropriations and accounts. Advising and recommending solutions to financial management administration issues that require adjustment of new or revised methods. Developing short- and long-term financial management goals and objectives.
