TOWNSHIP OF PLAINSBORO - NOTICE OF VACANCY DATE OF POSTING: September 17, 2025 POSITION TITLE: Tax Office Assistant STATUS: Full-time; 35 hours per week DEPARTMENT: Tax Assessor's Office FLSA: Non-Exempt UNION: CWA SALARY RANGE: $48,148 - $74,954

POSITION SUMMARY: Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with proven customer service experience? The Township of Plainsboro is seeking applicants for a Tax Office Assistant opportunity to join the joint offices of the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor. This is a great opportunity to be a key player in our community, providing essential support to both offices and directly assisting the public.

*RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: As a Tax Office Assistant, you'll be the first point of contact for the public, so a calm and professional demeanor is a must. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Customer Service: You'll provide information, respond to inquiries, and resolve problems for the general

public, other township departments, mortgage companies, and attorneys, both in person and over the phone.

Payment Processing: You will collect and post tax payments and handle other financial tasks.

Record Keeping: You'll be responsible for updating and maintaining computerized property files and

other department records with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Clerical Duties: You'll manage a variety of administrative tasks, including processing requisitions,

preparing for mass mailings, and assisting with important annual events like the Tax Sale.

Team Support: You'll provide coverage for both the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor offices and will

have the opportunity to oversee office functions in the absence of the Division Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with at least one year of clerical experience.

Experience in another tax office is a plus.

The ability to work calmly and effectively with the public, even in confrontational situations.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

A proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently on routine assignments.
