Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This role involves engineering mechanical systems, underwater systems, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), diver tools, and methods for ship and offshore structure construction, inspection, repair, and recovery by divers and ROVs. The position supports operational requirements for Navy and commercial customers. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, this role receives moderate supervision and increasingly leads projects while directing junior engineers. Primarily office-based, some offshore travel is required for testing and supporting offshore equipment.

Responsibilities

Design and develop systems and components for underwater use and supporting equipment, such as ROVs, AUVs, diving systems, cofferdams, handling systems, and deck equipment.

Plan engineering and design work to meet customer requirements, including applicable codes and standards.

Perform system engineering analysis under the guidance of senior engineers and lead the integration of subsystems and systems.

Engineer, test, troubleshoot, and document proto@type subsystems and systems throughout their lifecycle, including conception, definition, build, and operation phases.

Provide technical leadership and management for projects, including client interface, technical team organization, design responsibility, and some fiscal oversight.

Participate in marketing, conferences, and bid and proposal activities.

Draft and assemble project documentation packages and proposals as assigned.

Work in a multidisciplinary team environment on multiple projects, coordinating with engineers, resource managers, and program managers.

Supervise the work of engineers, CAD designers/draftspersons, and subcontractors, and review drawings and analyses performed by others.

Utilize basic mechanical analyses and equipment, providing expertise in at least two @types of equipment.

Essential Skills

Experience in structural engineering and knowledge of structural theory.

Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.

Ability to perform structural analysis and mechanical design.

Experience with project management and marine engineering.

Knowledge of welding, hydraulics, umbilicals, rigging, subsea systems, and naval architecture.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical, structural, naval architecture, marine, or ocean engineering is desired.

Minimum of 8 years of applicable working experience in the marine industry.

Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D solid modeling programs.

Familiarity with SolidWorks Simulation or similar FEA software.

Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance is desired.

Work Environment

The work is primarily office-based, with some offshore travel required for testing and supporting offshore equipment. The position involves working in a multidisciplinary team environment across multiple projects, collaborating with engineers, resource managers, and program managers.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $61.00/hr.
