We are seeking a Medical Illustrator who will provide detailed illustrations and animations for training materials, job aids, teaching tools, courses and web-based courseware systems. The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Division of Gynecologic Oncology seeks a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Research Associate/Medical Illustrator. In this role, you will collaborate with leading researchers and clinicians in the area of ovarian cancer prevention as well as in the field of gynecologic oncology in general to create high-quality visual representations and illustrations of complex medical and scientific concepts. Your artistic expertise and scientific knowledge will be crucial in our mission to advance a nationally coordinated public health strategy for ovarian cancer prevention.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Produce medical illustrations, including medical procedures, anatomy, medical products and devices.

Deliver effective and accurate illustrations for all @types of publications.

Create drawings for teaching and research purposes.

Utilize advanced biomedical knowledge and technical expertise to create scientifically accurate visuals.

Research scientific and medical reference materials.

Coordinate with instructional designers, technical writers, and multimedia staff on image, animation, and audio needs.

Apply principles of universal design, with attention to shading and contrast, color, text size and legibility, and labeling of parts in figures to improve accessibility and Section 508 compliance.

Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

Manage and maintain program communications platforms, including the website.

Contribute to educational outreach initiatives by creating visually engaging materials for public events, conferences, and workshops that enhance scientific communication and community engagement. Coordinate with the development team to support philanthropy and donor engagement efforts.

Develop educational and outreach materials, including infographics, posters, and digital content, to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse professional, patient, and public audiences.

Collaborate with the director and researcher collaborators to understand their experimental findings and scientific objectives, translating this knowledge into visually compelling figures and graphics for publications, presentations, and grant proposals.

Support project management efforts for the Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology and intramural/extramural collaborators to advance a nationally coordinated public health campaign for ovarian cancer prevention.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Medical or Scientific Illustration, Clinical Photography, or a related field.

Three years of related experience.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/ graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Medical Illustration.

Advanced experience using design software such as Adobe Creative Suite applications.

Demonstrated expertise in medical illustration, graphic design, or visual communication in a healthcare or scientific @context.

Strong understanding of human anatomy and ability to accurately represent complex medical concepts visually.

Proficiency in relevant software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects) and 3D modeling software (e.g., C4D, ZBrush).

Familiarity with scientific research methodologies.

Experience engaging with patients, clinicians, and healthcare teams.

Familiarity with web-based content management and basic website updates.

Experience working in an academic medical center or similar environment.

Passion for advancing public health and promoting equitable cancer prevention is essential.

Starting Salary Range: $46,200 - $80,800 Annually ($78,000 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
