BluePearl is seeking a Blood Bank Coordinator.
The Coordinator Medical Program - Blood Bank is responsible for the procurement of all feline and canine blood products, working as part of the BluePearl National Blood Bank to provide blood products to hospitals.
Job Responsibilities
Recruits and elevates blood donor programs through educational awareness including, but not limited too; involvement in community and BluePearl events, managing social media content, participating in media relations, and establishing strong rDVM relationships while working alongside the Vet Relations Rep.
Assists with all phases of blood bank operations from donor registration and screening to phlebotomy procedures, supply, quality, and availability of blood products.
Monitors blood product supplies and inventory daily while facilitating requests and transferring or shipping blood products based on availability and expiration.
Coordinates with other facilities as needed.
Performs accurate medical screening of donors with oversight of a licensed veterinarian to determine eligibility.
Maintains all pertinent donor medical records and consent forms.
Coordinates and schedules donations based on hospital needs and donor availability.
Utilizes knowledge and skills to obtain a TPR, perform appropriate calculations to determine, administer, and monitor sedation during collection, if needed.
Performs venipuncture on canines and felines to collect blood for testing, donations and/or for intravenous access.
Maintains knowledge of blood component therapy processing.
Documents collection and sedation information in the medical record and appropriate Inventory tracking sheets.
Cleans and maintains blood bank equipment and supplies.
Conducts quality control measures of blood product to align with best practices.
Collaborates with the training team on educational opportunities related to blood product management and use.
Works with the financial coordinator to ensure blood products are being invoiced appropriately.
Updates the National Blood Bank on the progress of the blood bank program consistently.
Supports other departments based on hospital needs.
Education and Experience
High school diploma required, undergraduate degree preferred.
2+ years of experience in a veterinary hospital role required.
Advanced training in blood banking or transfusion medicine.
Credentialed veterinary nurse or equivalent in your state with prior knowledge of transfusion medicine.
Qualifications

Works under minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, prioritization of work, and problem-solving skills.
Requires in-depth skills and knowledge of the specialized concepts, practices, and procedures in the area of specialization.
Utilizes in-depth knowledge of the specialization as well as business needs to recommend appropriate action.
Working Conditions
Ability to stand or sit at a computer station for long periods of time.
The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
Environment where pets are present.
Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
Occasionally exposed to airborne particles and illness from patients and chemicals related to animal care and office equipment.
