Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will design and develop new machinery, equipment, and production systems to improve operational efficiency. You will be responsible for planning and executing modifications to existing equipment to enhance functionality, safety, and reliability. This role involves conducting feasibility studies, technical evaluations, and creating detailed design drawings and technical documentation using CAD software. You will also specify requirements for new equipment and ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
Design and develop new machinery and equipment to improve operational efficiency.
Plan and execute modifications to existing equipment to enhance functionality, safety, and reliability.
Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for new and modified equipment.
Create detailed design drawings and technical documentation using CAD software.
Specify requirements for new equipment, including both in-house designs and vendor-supplied systems.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), and company policies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, process engineering, and quality assurance.
Manage projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
Assess the validity and suitability of commercial equipment and vendor-designed solutions.
Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues during installation and operation.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical design and manufacturing technologies.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in 2D CAD software (AutoCAD) for mechanical design and drafting.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, material selection, and machine components.
Design knowledge of mechanical components (gears, bearings, cams, link mechanisms).
Material engineering (properties of metals and plastics, heat treatment, surface treatment).
Strength calculations and structural analysis (static, dynamic, FEM analysis).
Understanding and application of tolerances and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems (pumps, cylinders, valves, piping design, etc.).
Knowledge of electrical equipment and control systems (motor @types and characteristics, inverters, relays, solenoid valves, sensors, etc.).
Experience with measurement instruments (voltage, current, and resistance measurement, use of temperature, pressure, and flow sensors).
Fundamental understanding of electrical circuits (Ohm's Law, basics of DC/AC circuits, power calculations).
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Prior experience in process/manufacturing/design engineering.
Sound time management skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in Engineering or Design from a four-year college or university, or four to ten years of related experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and CAD software.
Experience with PLCs, automation, and control systems is a plus.
Experience with 3D CAD (Inventor) is a plus.
Work Environment
The work environment is located at the Virginia Beach, Virginia Main Office, as well as in the production facility and warehouse. The noise level in the office is usually moderate, with usual machinery noise in the production facility. Employees are required to enter the production facility and warehouse, where safety glasses and safety shoes are mandatory. The job requires regular sitting, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting and moving up to 20 pounds. Work may occur in various environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
