Information Technology Hourly Assistant - Cabling/Field Support Technician
GENERAL DUTIES
I.T. Support Assistants support routine operations and problem resolution of computing and/or communications functions at a College or Unit. They work in technical support, applications development, operations, help desk, and similar environments, as well as in the field where equipment may be located.
Work tasks include as:
-Operating, transporting, adjusting, and installing/configuring computing and related equipment
-Communicating with technology users and staff to understand, identify, document and resolve problems
-Performing simple repairs to computing and related equipment.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
Reporting to the Telecommunications and Field Support Manager of Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the City College of New York, the Cabling/Field Support Technician will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the college's Cabling Team.
The successful candidateHe/she will ensure cohesion in implementing college-wide IT initiatives, procedures, and protocols by collaborating with other IT professionals, including systems administrators, network administrators, audio/visual and front-line services, security administrators, and third-party vendors.
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
Collaborate and communicate with cross-functional teams, including PMO, network services, system administration, audio-visual technology, and front-line services teams.
Mount wireless access points (WAP) and related components to establish reliable wireless connectivity
Assist in repairing and expansion expanding telecommunications cabling, ensuring installation conforms to design documentation
Install cabling (coax, HDMI, CAT5e/6/6A cable) and equipment, including toning, testing, labeling, termination, and cable management
Ensure high-quality customer service by providing effective and timely responses to IT requests and incident tickets assigned to the Cabling team, including resolving and escalating severe incidents
Mount and secure devices - such as cabinet/enclosures, racks, and panels
Respond to reported cabling incidents and service requests, and complete and escalate in a timely manner with up-to-date, pertinent information
Mount wireless access points (WAP) and related components to establish reliable wireless connectivity
Assist in monitoring data center and IDF infrastructure, including power, cooling systems, security cameras, and access control, and environmental conditions, to maintain optimal performance
Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
Eighteen months of related full-time work experience or equivalent, such as completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology
Demonstrated English Language proficiency
A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform full range of motion activities, such as, but not limited to, walking, standing, lifting, or climbing while performing duties
Knowledge of proper operation of power and hand tools
Experience installing, terminating, troubleshooting, and maintaining voice, data, fiber, and A/V cabling
Experience using of test equipment such as network analyzers, cable toner, cable analyzer, telephone test set (butt set)
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong interpersonal and service delivery skills
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
This title has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

New Hire $30.99
Incumbent: $34.99
