Job Description Summary
The 2nd Shift Operations Leader for the Schenectady Machine Shop is the front-line leader for hourly Machinists and Assemblers. Candidate will plan and administer daily work assignments in accordance with cell work goals ensuring high quality results. Set clear expectations for the shifts and follow-up up with operators on deliverables daily. Responsible for scheduling training and taking actions needed to ensure safe work environment. Help resolve technical problems by coordinating with cell manufacturing engineers and machine repair to keep operations running smoothly. Ensure seamless transition of work direction to ops leaders on successive shifts.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Delegate work assignments based on current priorities dictated by production schedule
Manage daily productivity goals and make sure machinists meeting L1 targets
Communicate daily safety talking points (provided by EHS) and Encourage safety conversations- address concerns promptly
Keep machinists who are training on task and monitor training to completion
Verify that all hours in BMS/Prophecy are correctly vouchered for previous week before finance report (verify by Tuesday)
Submit Work Orders and coordinate with Machine Repair to minimize machine down time
Manage and schedule EHS trainings for employees on shift
Be visible on the shop floor throughout shift and address issues/concerns that slow down productivity
Verbally communicate with Operations Leaders on other shifts to make sure critical information flows between shift
E-mail written shift turnover information to the salaried team
Lead CARES Review for any injury that happens on shift
Manage overtime and "flexing" opportunities on a weekly basis
Verify that employee weekly time cards are correctly updated in Kronos
Make sure that machinists on shift are filling out quality PC forms on daily basis
Promote positive shop culture and maintain employee morale
Optimize indirect labor on shift- Initiate housekeeping/ improvement projects
Communicate and follow-up with quality non-compliance incidents that happen on shift-
Uphold company code of conduct, procedures, and work rules for employees on shift and issue disciplinary action if necessary
Oversight and management of front-line manufacturing employees. Typically managing hourly employee populations.
Expected to resolve problems through the application of acquired expertise guided by precedent.
Works together with people from the business unit. Contacts are under guidance and/or geared towards specifying activities, planning of activities and giving explanations on technical issues.
Communicates with direct team and supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role (manufacturing or similar industry preferred) OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Manufacturing, 2 of which are/were in a supervisory role OR Military Training.
Eligibility Requirements
Ability and willingness to work the Off-Shift- 2nd Shift (3pm-11pm).
Must be legally authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future.
This position is 100% onsite in Schenectady, NY.
Desired Characteristics
Engineering or management degree.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.
Manufacturing experience relevant to heavy duty equipment.
Experience running projects in a machine shop environment.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex problems.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Established project management skills.
The base pay range for this position is $74,800K - $95,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for 5 %_ _performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity and 10% shift differential.?
