Summary You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER/HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Radiation Health Division (code 105.5), Deputy Radiological Controls Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) Waterfront (Code 105.1W), Radiological Controls Office (Code 105) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will plan, organize, and accomplish a radiation health program with is part of the Shipyard's overall radiological control program. You will decide on matters or recommend changes to organizational structure, function, responsibility, and authority for various aspects of the radiation safety and health programs. You will conduct, evaluate, and report results of the personnel dosimetry program and environmental monitoring programs. You will support emergency response readiness through personal engagement as a responder and by providing support assignment of subordinates to include maintaining qualifications, routine attendance at training and response to drills and real events. You will determine the required radiation health training for the Radiation Health Divisional personnel, to include training on health physics, dosimetry, emergency response plans, environmental monitoring, and personnel decontamination. You will provide technical assistance to all shipyard training organizations performing radiological training to workers, shipyard visitors, engineers, emergency responders, and conductors. You will provide and exercise direct professional, technical and administrative supervision over radiation health personnel. You will resolve technical, scientific and engineering problems beyond the capacity of subordinates and problems which involve policy determination or which may potentially establish precedent and novel determinations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience displaying knowledge of engineering concepts and principles and knowledge and understanding of the theory, principles, and practices of Health Physics. Experience reading, comprehending, and interpreting complex technical, scientific and engineering data, publications, related to Health Physics and Radiation Health programs. Experience implementing the techniques necessary to minimize environmental impact and potential health hazards associated with radiological work.
