Role Overview:
The Quarterly Census of Employment & Wage program looks for candidates that possess good research skills, data comprehension and data accuracy skills, and the ability to work well independently and within a busy, fast paced team environment. Decision making is key in this position as keying and editing data is a good portion of this job. The job is in a quarterly Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) employment and wage program foundational for other BLS programs.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Collect, review, compile, create, or obtain data from existing sources and evaluate their relevance and accuracy.
Consult with data users to determine specific information needs and when new information must be created.
Organize, process, and maintain databases and spreadsheets, converting data into different formats.
Help to apply relevant concepts and theories to activities through coaching or other means.
Work and communicate with clients and customers to satisfy their expectations or needs.
Communicate results to stakeholders using written and verbal communication skills.
Distinguish trends, predict the impact of actions on system operations, diagnose deviations in the function of a system/organization, and take action to correct performance.
Troubleshoot the system and make changes to the system's functioning to ensure the quality of the product.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

Knowledge of general data collection processes and database design structures.
Strong attention to detail and research abilities for accurate data collection and entry.
Ability to establish facts, draw valid conclusions, recognize discrepancies, and find solutions to resolve problems.
Communicate thoughts, ideas, information, and messages clearly in writing.
Ability to compose and create documents, including checking, editing, and collaborating with stakeholders to revise papers.
Recognize and use learning techniques to apply and adapt new knowledge and skills in familiar and changing situations.
Exerts high effort and perseverance toward goal attainment to meet federal deliverable deadlines.
Assess knowledge, skills, and abilities accurately; ask questions, synergize with team members, and appropriately respond to feedback.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
