JOB REQUIREMENTS: JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the
Director/Health Officer, the Public Health Nurse provides public health
nursing services to individuals, families, and population groups.
Nursing actions are directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment,
risk reduction, and health status improvement for individuals, families,
and communities. Nursing activities include but are not limited to
monitoring health status to identify community needs and strengths,
preventing epidemics and the spread of communicable diseases, protecting
against environmental hazards and injury, promoting, and educating the
population in healthy behaviors, linking people to health services,
actively participating in emergency preparedness response and
recovery/resiliency, and promoting community partnerships. ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under general supervision and/or as part of
various workgroups and teams, the Public Health Nurse performs the
following essential functions within the framework of Iowa County Health
Department\'s provision of the core functions and essential services of
public health including the foundational areas and foundational
capabilities. -Performs professional public health nursing services
focusing on assessment and surveillance of communicable disease and
infectious disease control using epidemiological principles. -Uses
public health surveillance/disease investigation methods in community
outreach, screening, and case finding of communicable and infectious
diseases that threaten the health of the community. This includes the
provision of care coordination for those in vulnerable populations
and/or high-risk groups and the use of the Wisconsin Electronic Disease
Surveillance System (WEDSS). -Provides vaccination clinics and addresses
emerging public health issues. -Conduct risk assessment, perform
screening tests, and administer treatment per protocol. -Plans,
organizes, implements, and evaluates immunization programs. -Performs
professional public health nursing services focusing on prevention
including family and child health, adult health, sexually transmitted
infections (STIs), preparedness, cancer, diabetes, hypertension,
tuberculosis (TB), communicable disease, immunizations, and primary
care. -Promotes Public Health prevention programs on a variety of health
topics, including community education in a variety of settings.
-Provides health counseling, screening, education, support, and guidance
to client/family/community in a variety of community settings, in
person, over the phone, and/or electronically to promote optimal health
and promote disease. -Collaborates on environmental health and human
health hazard situations. -Assists in investigating complaints regarding
environmental health problems and environmental health hazards and
initiates enforcement or corrective actions as required in collaboration
with the Environmental Health Coordinator. -Conducts assessments, home
visits, screening, education, and counseling on environmental health
topics including health hazards related to lead, radon, air, and water
quality. -Water Lab- Provides well water education to county residents.
Performs well water testing onsite and maintains a relationship with our
partner lab for tests sent offsite. Communicates well water testing
results and contamination mitigation options with well owners. -Provides
public health nursing assessments and care for individuals and families
through home, office, or telephone visits. -Provides screening,
referral, and follow-up to identify health needs. -Provides education
and counseling on a wide variety of maternal, infant, and child health
topics including pre/postpartum care, breastfeeding, safe sleep, and
child development. -Participates in ongoing community assessment program
planning and implementation. -Delivers targeted culturally appropriate
information to help individuals and groups understand health promotion
and disease prevention information, policies, regulations, and local
code. -Participates in emergency preparedness planning, response, and
recovery. -Contributes to a work environment that fosters ongoing
educational experiences regarding public health nursing for colleagues,
nursing and other health-related students, healthcare professionals, and
members of the community. - Participates in professional development
programs and ongoing education to maintain current knowledge of public
health issues and current nursing practices. -Coordinates assigned grant
activities, as directed by the Director or Public Health Nurse Lead.
-Assists in the collection of data for statistical information/analysis.
-Participates in health-related community partnerships and networks
locally and statewide. -Performs other duties as assigned. -Must
demonstrate regular and dependable attendance. ** OTHER
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor\'s
Degree in Nursing from a National League for Nursing accredited program,
one to two years of professional nursing experience related to the
position, current license to practice professional nursing in WI at time
of hire. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communications
skills, must be proficient in the use of personal computers and
contemporary pc software, and have the ability to establish proficiency
with Health Department database programs. Candidates must have the
ability to transport self to required meetings or appointments that
occur outside of the Iowa County Health Department. Final candidate will
