Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an A/V Technology Specialist in our Information Technology department, reporting directly to the A/V Systems Manager.
The position will reside in the Washington, DC office and will be responsible for facilitating technology needs for all meetings/events occurring in the Washington, DC, assisting DC attorneys and staff with collaboration/video platform needs, maintaining the Washington, DC office cable TV distribution system and providing technology and event coverage for the DC Public Law & Policy office (located near Capitol Hill). The A/V Technology Specialist is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm's attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
The position requires being in the office five days per week and is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
Manage the Audio-Visual calendar and coordinate with Washington office conference center staff to ensure that meetings start on time with all requested equipment.
Scheduling WebEx, Zoom, and/or Teams meetings based on meeting requests/requirements.
Set-up audio/visual systems and attend to other presentation needs in conference rooms.
Monitor the EMS conference room scheduling system for all meetings and video conferences occurring in or hosted by the DC office in order to ensure all events are setup on time.
Coordinate in-person or remote meeting and video conference assistance as needed for the Akin Gump Policy Space near Capitol Hill.
Work with Akin IT and other professionals to ensure punctual, high quality video calls.
Troubleshoot meeting problems - including issues that occur in joining, conducting, or participating in audio conference meetings, VTC meetings, and/or Teams/Zoom meetings and escalating to internal tier 3 groups to resolve as necessary.
Troubleshoot conference room hardware - including microphones, touch panels, video transmitters/receivers, etc.
Maintain all audio visual equipment including laptops, projectors, and conference phones to ensure that they are in working order and an adequate supply is available.
Assist other team members by scheduling, facilitating, and monitoring firm-wide video conferences as needed.
Review all VTC request forms so that every requirement needed for each video conference is met. Requirements include but are not limited to video layout, host office, recording needs, audio line, camera switching, muting, etc.
Assist other team members in troubleshooting of audio visual and video conference systems.
Assist with filming firm events.
Lead or participate in projects as assigned by the audio/visual systems manager.
Assist with training system users as required on all aspects of conference room technology.
Maintain accurate equipment inventory by following policies and with direction from the Audio/Visual Systems Manager.
Conduct quarterly audits of all Audio/Visual and Video Conferencing equipment in the DC office to ensure proper working order.
Support process improvement activities by recommending and documenting changes to existing procedures.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
High school diploma or equivalent.
An additional two-year college degree or technical school diploma is preferred; however, substantial experience can substitute for education.
A minimum of three years of experience in Audio Visual/Video Conference operations, preferably in a law firm environment.
AVIXA AV Technologist certification preferred.
Video Codec models: Cisco Room Kits.
Crestron, Biamp, and Shure hardware.
WebEx, Teams, Zoom, and future collaborative/content sharing tools.
Experience with EMS, Microsoft 365, and NetDocuments.
Proficiency with desktop and laptop computers (Windows and Mac), as well as smartphone devices.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with attorneys and staff in an effective, non-technical manner.
Strong technical knowledge in relevant areas.
Demonstrated ability to train computer system users in one-on-one settings.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.
Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
Proven ability to maintain and update technical knowledge and skills.
Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, peers, office and firm management, and outside business partners.

The anticipated base salary range for this position in Washington, DC is $65,000 to $80,000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.
