Accountant

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and other government contract requirements while managing the firm's accounting functions. The Accountant will oversee cost allocations, indirect rates, allowability of expenses, account reconciliations, and government audit support to ensure accuracy and compliance in all financial reporting related to federal contracts.

Responsibilities

Interpret and apply FAR, CAS, and agency-specific regulations to all accounting and financial activities.

Prepare, monitor, and reconcile direct, indirect, allowable, and unallowable costs in compliance with government contracts.

Develop, monitor, and update indirect rate structures (overhead, G&A, fringe) and prepare forward pricing rate proposals.

Perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts, subledgers, and bank accounts, ensuring balances are accurate, properly supported, and compliant with GAAP and FAR.

Support DCAA audits, including Incurred Cost Submissions and other government audit requirements.

Ensure compliance with timekeeping, labor charging, and expense reporting policies.

Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FAR.

Maintain internal controls and recommend process improvements to strengthen compliance and efficiency.

Essential Skills

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

5+ years of experience in government contract accounting.

Strong knowledge of FAR, CAS, DCAA regulations, and GAAP.

Experience with Deltek, QuickBooks, or other government contract accounting software (Deltek Vantagepoint strongly preferred).

Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong communication skills to collaborate with technical staff and government auditors.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in an A/E/C (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) or surveying/engineering services firm.

CPA or MBA.

Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or another Deltek ERP.

The position operates in a professional office environment with a Monday through Friday work schedule. The role offers growth opportunities within a local, expanding government contracting company, with the potential to assume the Accounting Manager role in the future. The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $95000.00/yr.
