Summary You will serve as a LOFTER in the STRUCTURAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will plan, perform wood-working machine operations and benchwork to construct, alter and repair patterns. You will analyze engineering drawings and other technical data using Computer Aided Design or traditional lofting methods. You will coordinate and perform circularity measurements working from design instructions. You will utilize 3D measurement equipment, including but not limited to Articulating arms, Laser Trackers, Total Stations, Line Laser Scanners, Hand Scanners, Large Area Scanners, Photogrammetry, Inclinometers, and North Seeking Gyro. You will perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, such as: Taking ship measurements and preparing templates from actual ship layout to support repairs. Utilizing Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) software and wood-working machinery. Performing structural geometric readings, hull mapping and flatness checks using optical measuring devices. Maintaining portable coordinate measurement machines (PCMMs) and using all PCMM associated software. Anticipating and evaluating technical problems arising in the development and use of computer-aided applications.
