What You Will Do
The Security Systems (SO-SS) group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory is responsible for providing systems design for the Administrative Access Control System (AACS) and the Argus security system at the Laboratory. As a valuable member of the SO-SS Design Team, you will become fully proficient in creating design packages for both the AACS and Argus systems.
Note: This position will be filled at either the Computer & Information Security Specialist 2 or 3 level depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Computer & Information Security Specialist 2 $85,900 - $139,900
As a Designer/Drafter, you will be working as part of the Security Systems design team. You will be producing access control, intrusion detection, and video system drawing packages for facilities at LANL. Regular functions include but are not limited to performing walk downs of existing facilities, creating access control and/or security systems designs, developing initial security design solutions for new facilities, additions and renovations; function and contribute to a strong team-work environment. In addition, you'll learn and develop the following:
Become familiar with Security Systems policy and procedures.
Become familiar with both the AACS badging systems and the Argus security system.
Become experienced in producing drawing packages for access controls, intrusion detection, and video systems.
Computer & Information Security Specialist 3 $104,100 - $172,200
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level, the Computer & Information Security Specialist 3 performs the following duties:
Knowledge and experience in understanding access control, intrusion detection, and video design.
Proficient with the AACS badging systems and the Argus security system.
Develop design packages with little to no supervision.
Interact more with internal leadership as well as outside organizations to accomplish work tasks, including design projects.

Job Requirements for (Designer/Drafter) Computer & Information Security Specialist 2:
Expert in use of computer-aided drafting (CAD) software used to produce models, drawings, layouts and sketches of components or systems. Generates complete definition packages for complex designs and coaches' others with tools and best practices.
Expert level understanding of modeling and drawing drafting principles, application of standards, symbols, and notes. Demonstrates consistent excellence in application of standards, dimensioning schemes, materials, codes and production methods.
Expert knowledge of engineering, design, and drafting concepts related to structural, electro/mechanical, or electrical disciplines. Subject matter expert providing practical solutions and perspective on product, process, and practice improvements.
Expert knowledge of ASME, ANSI, AWS and related industry standards. Subject matter expert of industry, regulatory policies pertinent to one or more engineering disciplines.
Good oral and written communication skills and ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and customers.
Ability to work in collaboration with the Security team to ensure drawing/design accuracy and quality.
Ability to develop CAD drawings under the direction of a senior designer.
Working knowledge of MS Office products and related CAD products.
Additional Job Requirements for (Designer/Drafter) Computer & Information Security Specialist 3:
Master level use of computer-aided drafting (CAD) software to produce models, drawings, layouts and sketches of components.
Provides technical solutions to complex and/or unique problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity and independence. Solutions are frequently original and impact the outcome of the entire project. Usually includes some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product.
Work well in teams and with minimal guidance from a senior level designer on non-routine tasks.
Education/Experience at Computer & Information Security Specialist 2: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to Computer & Information Security Specialist.
Education/Experience at Computer & Information Security Specialist 3: Position requires a bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to Computer & Information Security Specialist.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principals and procedures.
Demonstrated understanding of the organization and mission of the Laboratory and the Security Directorate.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Walkdowns of LANL facilities and climbing ladders
Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level).
