Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Los Angeles, California.
From safeguarding communities against floods to strengthening vital water infrastructure, our geotechnical engineers are at the forefront of shaping resilient environments. At AECOM, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to critical projects involving dams, levees, floodwalls, and embankments that protect millions of people and ecosystems. As part of our Los Angeles team, you'll work alongside industry leaders to solve complex geotechnical challenges, applying cutting-edge engineering tools and hands-on field experience to projects that truly make an impact.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses.
Assist in the procurement of subcontract drilling and laboratory testing services.
Establish boring locations in the field.
Supervise field drilling operations and construction inspections.
Complete laboratory testing assignments.
Perform quality control checks on the laboratory test results.
Prepare Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and drilling plans.
Develop design parameters of the soils and rock.
Perform geotechnical analyses to determine the bearing capacity, settlement, stability, and other characteristics of the subsurface materials.
Complete geotechnical reports and proposals for review by senior technical staff.
Complete analyses to determine the most cost-effective foundation design solutions.
Work on projects that reduce the risk of flooding, like new designs or improvement designs for levees, floodwalls, floodgates, dams, penstocks, tunnels, stormwater pump stations, channels, and bank stabilization.
Design Build projects for both flood control projects and highways.
Design embankment stabilization and under-seepage solutions.
Design MSE walls and bridge foundations.
Learn about mitigation strategies for expansive soils; soft, organic soils; or karstic limestone foundations.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited institution or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience
Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
Engineer in Training (EIT) or must obtain within 6 months after the start of employment.
Relevant internship and/or professional experience.
Demonstrated ability to work on fast-paced, complex projects with high attention to detail and remain organized.
Ability to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time.
Highly motivated self-starter with a positive disposition.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Additional Information
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $70,000.00 - $80,000.00.
