TECHNICIAN, Operations and Maintenance
Job Description Summary:
SURTASS provides an on-demand, mobile, and active/passive maritime surveillance capability in support of Joint and Naval Task Force commanders via towed acoustic sensor systems. The ships and installed SURTASS mission equipment are designed for extended duration and independent operations in remote geographic areas. Thus, self-sufficiency in operations and maintenance is an important mission objective. It is intended that operations and maintenance be performed on board vessels and in depot maintenance facilities with the objective of maximizing operational readiness.
Job Description: The O&M Technician Crewmember shall:
Stand watch in the SURTASS Operations Center (SOC) onboard SURTASS Vessels to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair SURTASS mission equipment to support Fleet requirements, including maintaining all required records and logs and monitoring and sending record Naval Message Traffic.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all SURTASS mission equipment in accordance with the PMS and other reference documents, as required. Preventative maintenance records shall be maintained in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.
Maintain an accurate logistics inventory as provided by the Government and provide periodic updates to the Product Support Facility (PSF). Any deviation beyond 5% of consumables and 2% of repair parts can result in financial liability for the contractor to correct.Operate the shipboard test equipment pool used with SURTASS mission equipment, including ensuring it is in calibration through early and frequent coordination with the PSF. The Government will provide the test equipment, and be responsible for repair, calibration, and replacement of test equipment.Maintain a technical library on each ship to support all SURTASS mission equipment.
On SURTASS-E vessels, the O&M Crewmember Technicians will also conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on:
1) Passive Array winch, to include all hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
2) Antennas, including preservation
3) Electrical generation and distribution equipment and systems.
4) Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, limited to routine system checks and filter changes.
5) Van doors
6) Protected Distribution System
7) Van lighting systems, internal and external
8) Freshwater washdowns, minor preservation, and minor painting of the vans
Utilize the WILD trouble ticket application to log all maintenance trouble tickets for action in the JSN/WKRQ log, which shall include all applicable labor, external technical assistance, parts, and time expended.
Education:
Associate Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or be a graduate of US Navy electronics "C" school or equivalent civilian electronics technical school.
Curriculum must have dealt directly with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of: VME computers, digital computers, microprocessors or peripheral/interface equipment, networks, communications system, navigation system and/or sonar system.
Desired Professional Experience:
Five years' experience of practical hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of, at a minimum, one of the following: Virtual Machine Environment (VME) computers, networks, digital computers, microprocessors, communications systems, navigation systems, and/or sonar systems. Experience with SURTASS mission systems is preferred.
Required Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification required within 12 months

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $25.92 - $35.08. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
